He was told if he ever did it, it would kill him. One day he did it and it saved his life.

Could be a quickie, but I can never quite tell with these things

And yes... He = HAM

He = Him = His
If her ever did it? This doesn't make sense.
Was he about to die and he remembered this thing and it saved his life?

Was whoever told him it would kill him honest?

When he did it, did he expect it would save his life? Expect it would kill him?

Is electricity relevant? Poison? Infections? Weapons?

Did his doctor tell him it would kill him?

Is "it" ingesting something? Doing something exertive?

Did he know that not doing it would surely kill him? But doing it would give him at least a chance to survive?

Is he forced to drink alcohol ("Drink, or I'll kill you!")?

Is he about to die of thirst and only alcoholic drinks (or even deadlier drinks) are available?

Does he drink alcohol to alleviate some medical condition? The effects of an allergy?

Did the alcohol actually positively affect him internally? If so, did it...alleviate thirst? Constrict blood vessels? Lower body temperature? Affect the stomach somehow? Intestines? Liver? Brain?

Was his intent to get drunk? To appear drunk? Would any type of alcoholic drink work?

Yes, he is having a heart attack and he drinks the alcohol in a desperate attempt to help blood flow through his blood vessel and save his life. Now all you have to do is figure out why someone said this would kill him. $poiler should come soon I suspect.

Would he die from the effect of alcohol on his blood vessels, had he drunk under normal circumstances? Yes, possibly, at least this is what he was told.

Was he an alcoholic who had taken Antabuse earlier in the day? No, good question though.

You all have pretty much figured it out... so here's a
********SPOILER**********************

The man was a chronic alcoholic who had a massive allergic reaction to alcohol the last time he drank. His doctor told him that if he ever drank again it would probably kill him. He didn't drink for many years. One day while at home he felt himself having a heart attack. He looked for aspirin, but having none, he grabbed a bottle of whiskey and chugged it as a last ditch effort to save his life. Alcohol can thin the blood enough to survive a heart attack at times. He knew it was possible the allergy would kill him, but it seemed he would likely die anyway, so it was worth a shot.
