If a policeman's lot is not a happy one, the lot of a policeman in a Special Victims Unit (which deals with sex crimes) must be especially unhappy. One reason is obvious--he hears & sees horrible things. Another reason is less obvious., but it exists (if the TV show "Law & Order--SVU" is accurate). What is it? |

does the policeman lose out on some good experience? fail to get some kind of benefit? get a bad experience? do other people have a low opinion of him for some reason? is he 'unhappy' relative to other policemen? other men in general? relevant that you say 'man'? would this also affect a policewoman? would it also affect a police officer in other areas of work? are any of these things relevant to the unhappiness - romantic relationships? money? hobbies? pets? vacations? place of residence? privacy? education? clothing? politics? race? religion? family relationships? children? future job prospects? travel? food? music? art? |

does the policeman have to disclose things about himself that other policemen don't? his sexuality? his sexual history? does the police force have the right to investigate him in some way? to know his views on something? does he lose privacy? lose it to his bosses? to the public? |

An SVU policeman's lot is not a happy one because--if the TV show is to be believed--such a policeman is subjected to mandatory psychological counseling where he is expected to divulge intimate details about his sex life so the counselor can tell whether the job is harming him. And who will tell whether the invasion of privacy is harming him? To show that having a puzzle solved so fast hasn't harmed me, I have posted a new one below. |

Excellent puzzle, except that that song is going to be stuck in my head for days! |

Sorry about that! By the way, I once posted a puzzle whose solution involved a song's getting stuck in my head. |
