It's fading in and out in a rather irritating manner at the moment. But I prefer that to freezing.

Freezing - as feeling cold? Dying from cold? Standing still?

It: a light? A sound? A device? A natural phenomenon?

Freezing - as feeling cold? This. Dying from cold? Probably not. Standing still? No.

It: a light? This. A sound? A device? A natural phenomenon? The light is natural in origin.

Long nights in the North relevant? Good question but no (though they're quite annoying as well).

Is the light coming from the Sun? Yes indeed.

Is the light blocked by something? Are you indoors? Outdoors? Relevant?

The freezing: would it last minutes? Hours? Days? More?

Is whatever blocks the sunlight: one piece of material? A device? Is it stationary? Or moving?

Is it very high above (like, e.g. an airplane)?

Is it very high above (like, e.g. an airplane)? Not that high.

But high enough, right? Several metres? 10? 100?

Is it moving to and fro? Is it attached to something? Or just hanging in the air?

But high enough, right? Several metres? 10? 100? About 100.

Is it moving to and fro? Moving, but "to and fro" is not accurate. Is it attached to something? No. Or just hanging in the air? It's hanging in the air, but it's not stationary.

A kite? a flag? a balloon? a windmill? Neither.

BLOOPER: The answer to "Is whatever blocks the sunlight: one piece of material?" should've been: Yope/FA.

from a fireplace? Fire, but not in a fireplace. which is why the speaker isn't freezing? The fire is what keeps me from freezing - but not directly. Where is the fire and how does it keep me warm?

Is the fire in a furnace that heats the air for your building's heating system? in a boiler that heats water for radiators?

Is the fire in a furnace that heats the air for your building's heating system? in a boiler that heats water for radiators? This.

***SPOILER***
The other day I noticed that the light from the low sun was fading in and out with irregular intervals, but too quickly for drifting clouds. Since I enjoy sunlight immensely, particularly at this time of the year when it's so rare here up north, I found that quite annoying. Turns out the smoke from the chimney of the communal heating plant was drifting across the sun at that moment. I'd still rather have that fire going, since it's touching -30C outside during the nights.
Thanks for playing!

And thank you for the puzzle!

Minus thirty... I am freezing just with the thought.
