I realise that some answers are not easy to give and I hope they don't appear contradictory, but when you establish who 'they' are, things will hopefully become clearer. There are still one or two FAs Is the word "sell" not accurate? selling is partially correct but could lead to FAs Do they take donations? no Are they nomadic? no Did they recieve riches from: rich people? Middle class people? both A comrporation? no Other organization? no Military? no, although they were instrumental in them becoming rich, but that's a side issue so don't go there! Are they respected? yes Relevant on which continent they are?Europe (already established btw)If so, are they on [LTPF list of continents]? Did their poverty drive them to do something that ultimately turned out to be very profitable? difficult to answer but I'll say yes |

Did the upkeep on the buildings suffer? noDid they do repairs with other materials that they would have otherwise? not that I'm aware of Or were the buildings never torn down and replaced with newer ones, so the town still looks like it did hundreds of years ago? ding ding ding - we have a winner! ************ SPOILER ********** In a nutshell, Bruges was not on the trade routes that other towns nearby were and they suffered badly financially after a rich start. (Something to do with the canals). As a result they didn't knock down and rebuild perfectly adequate buildings and replace them with something more modern. Consequently, we have a beautiful historical town that is now reaping the benefits of tourism. Other towns of its size are 'much of a muchness' and don't have the appeal that Bruges has Well done, and thank you for sticking with it! |
