For a moment, everyone thought that the butler had done it. But as it turns out, the butler didn't do it. Knowing how well you all think laterally, this may well end up a quickie. |

Has a murder been committed? Or other crime? Is the situation the classic "all-the-suspects-in-a-room-with-the-detective" scenario? Or is the situation completely different? Something mundane? Perhaps it is assumed that the butler did something in his job description, such as open a door? But someone else did it? Or the butler is not actually a butler? Is the butler H/A/M? Is everyone else? How many people are involved, including the butler? Location relevant? Era relevant? |

Is the butler what we normally think of when we think of a butler? In some other, related, profession? Some completely different profession? Is his name Butler? Are the 25 a family? Do they employ the butler? |

Is the butler what we normally think of when we think of a butler? No In some other, related, profession? No Some completely different profession? Yes Is his name Butler? Yes Are the 25 a family? No Do they employ the butler? No There's been an important FA lurking that couldn't be avoided because of the wording of the question. If I had worded it, um, properly, this puzzle would be solved and $poyled in an instant. |

Did you change the emphasis of the question? Change a word (or more) completely? Change sentence structure? Is any of the puzzle statement spoken by a relevant character? Is everyone in a particular location? Together? Is Butler present? Are any of the following relevant: Butler's age? Gender? Location? Ethnicity? Religion? Profession? Job? Friends? Relatives? Enemies? Is he aware of what he was thought to have done? Same questions apply to the 25. Do they know each other? |

Did you change the emphasis of the question? Change a word (or more) completely? Change sentence structure? Is any of the puzzle statement spoken by a relevant character? None of these Is everyone in a particular location? No, Together? No Is Butler present? This is kind of tough to answer, so here's a hint: Butler is part of the 25. Are any of the following relevant: Butler's age? Gender? Location? Ethnicity? Religion? Profession? Job? Friends? Relatives? Enemies? Is he aware of what he was thought to have done? Yes to only the following: age, gender, location, job (with svv of "job"), and awareness; however, there is an svv in the final question that I can't say because it applies to the FA and would essentially $poyle the puzzle. Same questions apply to the 25. Do they know each other? About half know each other, and the other half know each other, but the two halves don't know each other |

HINT: If you can figure out the FA, you'll solve the puzzle instantly, especially if you're from the USA. |

Is Butler a person? One person? Or more than one? Would "the Butlers" be a more correct wording? |

Is the butler the college? Perhaps a team from that college? The basketball team? Does this have anything to do with NCAA final four this year? This has everything to do with that! I guess I can call this a **********SPOILER********** On April 5, 2010, the championship game of the 2010 NCAA Men's Basketball tournament was played between Butler and Duke. Butler, a #5 seed, had had an amazing run in the tournament, defeating the top two seeds in their regional to advance to the Final Four. Their Cinderella run was almost complete when, down 61-59 with less than 4 seconds left, Gordon Hayward made a desperation shot from half-court. The shot was so on-target that, for a moment, everyone thought that the team had completed their Cinderella tournament. Unfortunately, the shot bounced off the rim (later analysis showed that the shot was off by only 3 inches, or less than 1 degree on the X-axis), and Duke won the tournament. This was a big day for me, as not only was I one of the few people who had picked Butler to enter the Final Four (though I did not have them winning), but it was also my sister's birthday. Nice work to everyone on a quick solve, especially to Galfisk for figuring out the FA, and Noel for putting up the final shot. |
