Since tuesday, I've been having this nastylooking bruise on my cheek, causing friends, family and colleagues alike to ask me what ever happened to me. Noone has been able to guess yet, and I haven't really been eager to volunteer information. The answer is lateral indeed. So yes, this is an other puzzle in which I make a fool of myself, but it'll be worth it for the sake of a good puzzle. =P |

Was the bruise caused by impact? Were you the cause of it? Directly? Indirectly? Is anyone else involved? Any animals involved? Did you get the bruise at home? Work? Other place of business? Indoors? Outdoors? |

So it was caused by a blunt object, but not by impact? Was the object therefore already touching you before it started applying pressure? |

Did the object put constant pressure on your cheek? Vice versa? Did you fall asleep on something solid? |

Is it actually a bruise, or does it just look like one (perhaps you can't wash off your makeup for some reason)? Are or were you in pain? Was it obvious to you immediately what caused the bruise? Were you aware of the bruise before you saw it in the mirror? Since you were embarrassed, should you have been aware that what you were doing could cause a bruise? Were you inattentive? Did you do anything unsafe? Did you fail to follow instructions? |

Is it actually a bruise, or does it just look like one The word 'bruise' might be a little misleading, but I don't know what other word I could use. Most people seeing me thought that I had been hit, but it's not the kind of bluish bruise you get when hit by a blunt object. (perhaps you can't wash off your makeup for some reason)? that's not it, the 'bruise' is very real, I'm afraid Are or were you in pain? I was, a bit Was it obvious to you immediately what caused the bruise? yes Were you aware of the bruise before you saw it in the mirror? yesish Since you were embarrassed, should you have been aware that what you were doing could cause a bruise? I definately should have been Were you inattentive? yes, in a way Did you do anything unsafe? nothing that threatened my life or health, just ruined my face =( Did you fail to follow instructions? noish |

Re-wording: Did something constantly push against your cheek, causing the bruise? Vice versa? Is the bruise red? Was it caused by abrasion (something rubbing against your cheek)? By cold? Heat? Did you get the bruise in the bedroom? Kitchen? Living room? Bathroom? Dining room? Porch? Hallway? Staircase? Attic? Basement? Garage? The object that caused the bruise - is it typically handheld? Carried around? Is it larger than a microwave? Is it a microwave? |

Did you rub a towel, wet with warm water, on your face? For a prolonged time? To remove something from your face? this is all correct, I'm afraid =( * * * SPOILER * * * Last tuesday, there was a masquerade at the school where I work as a teacher and I used a rub-on tatoo on my cheek. Since the graduation ceremony was this friday, I wanted to look proper, so I tried to remove the tatoo, using very blunt violence indeed, rubbing it away with a towel. It worked. But moments after, my cheek stung so much I had to look into the mirror again, noticing I had left a bruice on my cheek that wouldn't be gone before friday. I do have a knack for making things worse.

Ouch! ={ Great puzzle though. Very lateral! (For future reference, and to avoid any more potential embarrassment, I believe scotch tape works well for removing temporary tattoos.) |
