A man pulls up to a gas station and pumps his car full of almost $6 worth of gas, but is careful not to go over. He then goes inside the station and pays with a $20 bill. He goes to another station, pumps almost $6 again and pays with $10 in change from the last stop. He repeats the process several times at other stations. At the last station he uses the ATM to withdraw a couple more twenties, and leaves to his destination. | ||

Distance between stations relevant? Is his gas tank full after he has pumped for almost $6? Is there something wrong with the car? Is he doing some sort of experiment? Research? Would something bad happen if he pumped for $7? Is he trying to get around some sort of limitation? If so: physical? Financial? Legal? Spousal? Is a bet relevant? | ||

Is the amount of change relevant? The number of bills? Whether he will get any coins? Is he in the US? Are they US dollars? Does it help to know which denominations exist of the bills? Or coins? | ||

Does he need a certain combination of bills? Is he trying to use up a certain number or type of bills? Is his gas tank large enough to take $20 worth of gas? Relevant? Price of gas relevant? Is he trying to leave a certain amount of gas in the tank at the end? | ||

So... Stop 1: Man pays with $20 bill, gets $14 in change, right? Does this consist of a $10 and four $1s? Stop 2: Man pays with $10 in change from Stop 1, and gets $4 in change, right? Is he going to a strip club? Somewhere else where you usually tip with 1s? Going to a poker game? Some other type of betting scenario? (I used to play poker games that had 10 dollar buy ins...so many people would show up with 20s and 10s and then when we all tried to cash out we had no way of walking with 14 or 7, etc, so I always bought in with ones to help at the end of the night} | ||

I'm kind of amused that it was someone who appears to be female based on username who finally got it. ************ SPOILER ************ The man is going to a strip club. The club tend to be jerks about changing out bills for 1s and just insisting on buying drinks, so this is done beforehand to ensure there are plenty of 1s to use. Yes, this is based on personal experience. : ) |
