Man who kills himself = man who leaves the area? Did he really kills himself in real world, or it's something virtual? (ex. videogames, etc.) Is his death immediate or he has time to leave after committing the act leading to death? (ex. veins cutting) Does he leave the area with his own means? Walking? Driving? Or is he moved away by someone else? Relevant the way he commits suicide? If so, he suicides by gunshot? hanging? jumping from a 10-story building? |

So the man is an actor who plays a certain role in a movie, and his characters inthis movie commits suicide, is that correct? No it's not i'm afraid. The title strange suicide was slight mischievous as there is no suicide in this puzzle And the one who leaves the area is the actor himself, not his character? No it's his character |

Back to the puzzle statement, you say that "a man kills himself". Is it a real "killing", intended as a murder, or the verb "to kill" has some other meaning here? Long-distance shot: the actor (A) plays the role of a certain character (B) who, in the movie, kills a second character (C), but this character is actually the actor A himself played by some other actor? |

Back to the puzzle statement, you say that "a man kills himself". Is it a real "killing", intended as a murder, or the verb "to kill" has some other meaning here? It's a real killing albeit in the sense that it occurred in a movie Long-distance shot: the actor (A) plays the role of a certain character (B) who, in the movie, kills a second character (C), but this character is actually the actor A himself played by some other actor? Terrific idea but not right I'm afraid. Having said that you're thinking about this the right way |

Ok, back to the basics of the puzzle, are these statements correct: Is there an actor (A) who plays a certain character (B) in a movie? Does B kills someone? In the movie? Does B leave the area in a hurry? Is "the area" the place where the murder takes place in the movie? Some other place, but in the movie? Or is "the area" some place not related to the movie? Is A relevant to some extent, or all the relevant elements in the puzzle are internal to the movie? and related to B? |

While playing B, does A do anything which B is not supposed to do in the movie screenplay? Is the "killing" planned in movie screenplay? Is the "leaving"? Does A play these scenes exactly as planned? The reason why B leaves in a hurry: in order not to be seen? In order to escape someone? Police? Someone who could take a revenge? Someone who could have him arrested? |

No to all of these Is the 'killing' related to his leaving in a hurry? Partly but there's another reason This puzzle is getting complicated so I'll give you a piece of advice. If you establish the movie's genre a lot of the grey area will be cleared up |

The reason why B leaves the area in a hurry? Is there a different reason from what is set in the screenplay? OK what you are looking for is basically a fascinating piece of movie trivia that I discovered recently namely that an actor playing a role kills another character also played by the same actor. The main difference between Woodworms guess of Kind Hearts & Coronets where Alec Guinness plays all the leading parts and kills them off one by one, and my movie is that the fact that the actor plays more than one part is not well known. The lateral part of this puzzle is well nigh complete but for fun I'd like you to get to the specific scene of the movie. It's a very well knowm film in a genre yet to be mentioned |

The only thing I can think of is in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, when Indy sticks the flagpole into the motorcycle spokes, but that's not a war movie...why not, is that it? No but I love that scene where Indy turns round with a big self satisfied grin on his face only to be met with an icy stare from Sean Connery. There is a more famous motorcycle scene in a war movie which I'm sure Woodworm would provide in an instant if he happens by this little puzzle |

While we wait for Woodworm, I'll try and narrow down the movie. Is it: Patton? Tora Tora Tora? Schindler's List? Saving Private Ryan? Flags of Our Fathers? The Longest Day? Bridge on the River Kwai? The Great Dictator? Twelve O'Clock High? Catch-22? Inglorious Basterds? (that's all I can think of/know of/have heard of) None of these but you've named pretty much every great war movie except this one If none of those, is the film from [LTPF list of decades]? I'll go one better and tell you that the movie was made in 1963. The scene I'm referring to is one of the most iconic scenes ever. Real boys own cool stuff |

So thanks to the magic of Google (I admit it), I've found the movie, and the actor, (which I will not name, in case others still want to work on this, or in case Woodworm stops by) but I still have no idea how the motorcycle crash occurred. Was an object thrown at the motorcycle? In front of? At the rider? |

OK then... The movie is The Great Escape, and the actor is Steve McQueen, who, in the motorcycle chase scene, played one of the pursuing officers and the guy being pursued. Was an object placed in front of the motorcycle? Did the motorcycle hit it? And flip? Pop its tires? Skid? Was the object blunt? Sharp? A stick? |

Correct but there's more which I will relate directly Was an object placed in front of the motorcycle? Did the motorcycle hit it? And flip? Pop its tires? Skid? Was the object blunt? Sharp? A stick? ***************SPOILER************* In the movie The Great Escape the king of cool Steve McQueen not only plays the part of one of the pursuing German motorcyclists but he also plays the part of german that provides McQueens character Lt. Hilts with his motorcycle in the first place. Hilts strecthes a wire across the road which the next passing german outrider (played by McQueen) crashes into and is catapulted into a ditch. McQueen then strips the presumed dead german, dons his uniform, nicks his bike and shoots off. Cue the famous motorcycle chase scene. So a character played by McQueen kills another character played by McQueen and then is chased by yet another McQueen character (again as a german outrider) and others, through the hills of the german swiss border before crashing into that dammed barb wire. I thought this cool piece of movie trivia would make for a nice lateral situation. You might have guessed that The Great Escape is one of my top 10 favourite movies. |

OK, now I want to go watch that movie. I've actually only seen one war movie from start to finish, and ironically, I forgot to include it in my list. (It's Stalag 17, which is up there on my "top movies" list.) |
