Random guess: the hotel staff thought a man was a member of al-Qaeda and treated him badly? |

Is the one one bringing on the lawsuit the same as the one with mistaken identity? Yes, assuming you mean "the man whose identity was mistaken for someone else," rather than "the person who the other guy was mistaken for." Let's call the first guy Glen, and the second JJ. Is there anything relevant about the one with mistaken identity? Glen? Noish If so, Education? Family? Background? Hobbies Work? Friends? Eating habits? Something else? None of these Did he sue a group of individuals? An organisation? A company? County Council? Someone? Two people - "he" is Glen, remember Or something else? |

Just want to have one thing confirmed. It is Glen who's suing, not JJ? The following questions are then, of course, based on a Yes-answer to the previous question. Was Glen upset about the mistaken identity? Would most people be upset about being mistaken for JJ? Is JJ still alive? Is he famous for something bad? good? |

Is a scrund involved? Did Glen actually think JJ was famous for something bad? Is it important what JJ is famous for? Would it be beneficial to find out who he is? Or does that have nothing to do with the lawsuit? |

Hmm Yes but FA that's interesting. Would it be better to say "Did he play a team sport?" and "Did he play in the olympics?" Is JJ deceased? or retired from Sports? Was JJ involved in a scandal of some sort that would make it less beneficial to look like him? If so performance enhancing drugs? some other form of cheating? sex scandal? financial? It's not Tiger Woods is it? |

Going with the US and Olympic theme I'm guessing he either plays Basketball or Ice Hockey Correct? Did Glen claim to mobbed by adoring fans of JJ? autograph hunters? You said he sued two people . Is the other person a relative of JJ's ? spouse? Teammate? Manager? Agent? |

Going with the US and Olympic theme I'm guessing he either plays Basketball or Ice Hockey Correct? Yes, basketball. Should be solved really quickly now. Did Glen claim to mobbed by adoring fans of JJ? autograph hunters? Unknown, assume No You said he sued two people . Is the other person a relative of JJ's ? spouse? Teammate? Manager? Agent? Yope to this, but it's not necessary for the solve. |

Michael Jordan? Is the solution that Glen looks like or thinks he looks like Michael Jordan and sues MJ because people keep reminding him of the resemblance? Is the anything more to be found? |

Michael Jordan? Yep! Is the solution that Glen looks like or thinks he looks like Michael Jordan and sues MJ because people keep reminding him of the resemblance? Essentially, yes. Is the anything more to be found? No, and here's our **********SPOILER********** (Taken directly from the Stella Award website) "And the winner of the 2006 True Stella Award: Allen Ray Heckard. Even though Heckard is 3 inches shorter, 25 pounds lighter, and 8 years older than former basketball star Michael Jordan, the Portland, Oregon, man says he looks a lot like Jordan, and is often confused for him - and thus he deserves $52 million 'for defamation and permanent injury' - plus $364 million in 'punitive damage for emotional pain and suffering', plus the SAME amount from Nike co-founder Phil Knight, for a grand total of $832 million. He dropped the suit after Nike's lawyers chatted with him, where they presumably explained how they'd counter-sue if he pressed on." Nice job everyone, especially Eli for a lot of good questions, and Peter365 for the slam-dunk. |

I sometimes think if these idiots sued for say $50k then they might get paid off to avoid a long drawn out case but this clown wanted $832m!!!. Nice puzzle and thank you for introducing me to the Stellas (had never heard of them before). I've just had a quick look at some examples and simply love the one where the guy sued his neighbour because it's beagle who was tethered by a chain bit him on the ass. He was awarded less than sought because the jury took into account the fact that the guy had been continuously shooting the dog with a pellet gun. Holy moly. |

I think that one's an urban legend. The TSA site has a "bogus cases" page, because those have been circulating for so long that lawyers used the fake cases to show there was no problem with the legal system! That's why the True Stella Awards were created. |
