Wow, quite a compact statement. Where to begin... Well, is "he" human? Adult? Child? Is his age relevant? Is his height relevant? Is his weight relevant? Is his hair color relevant? Is his shoe size relevant? Did he win a contest? If so, was it one in which a certain talent or skill must be displayed? Athletic ability? Educational skill? Or, perhaps it was a contest where the winner is chosen by lot, like a lottery or raffle? Or maybe, it is a race against time? Was "he" competing against anyone else? |

Was he alone when he died? Would his death be considered "untimely"? Did he die while doing something foolish? Heroic? Physically exhausting? Requiring much strength? |

[That last answer rather messed things up: I was going to ask whether he was the winner of Monty Python's Upper Class Twit of the Year, who won the contest by clubbing himself to death. Never mind ...] Did he die a few seconds after winning? As a result of winning? In spite of winning? In the process of winning? Some time afterwards? Could he have won and still be alive now? Did he die before winning? And thus win a Darwin award? ;-) |

Focus? Easier said than done on this one! Was he the first to die, among some other people? Like, he died at 12:01 AM on January 1st 2000, making him the first person to die in the new century? Anything like that? Is it relevant where he was when he died? What he was doing? Who he was with? So now I'm just thinking of ways that a person can win - one can win: a contest? a bet? an award? freedom? recognition? I know some of these have been ruled out already, but does it relate to any of them remotely? |

Maybe a better question would be "participating in"... I know it wasn't gambling, but even though that is a fairly passive activity, it could get dangerous very quickly and lead to immediate death (like if someone makes bets and loses and cannot "pay up"). Did the conversation relate to their common enjoyment of alcohol? Something else they had in common? Did they decide to talk to each other because they both came to the same place on a regular basis? Or did something else spark the conversation? Were they watching TV together? Does it matter how either of them were dressed? No to all. I will say that Man #2 started the conversation, and the conversation is directly related to what Man #1 won. |

Did Man #2 think that Man #1 was better looking than he was? Or worse looking? Did any of these factor into their conversation... their ages? their apparent fitness/physical health? something they wanted to achieve in life? Did Man #1 win a "prize", even though he wasn't alive to receive it? Did he win fame? If these 2 guys had met, for instance, at a gym or at the park, is it likely that this conversation would have come up? |

Did Man #2 think that Man #1 was better looking than he was? Or worse looking? Irrel Did any of these factor into their conversation... their ages? their apparent fitness/physical health? something they wanted to achieve in life? None of these Did Man #1 win a "prize", even though he wasn't alive to receive it? Did he win fame? Neither. The category is about the one thing you haven't guessed yet - change one letter in the latter guess, add an article, and you'll have it. If these 2 guys had met, for instance, at a gym or at the park, is it likely that this conversation would have come up? It could have come up anywhere; however, the man likely would not have won had this not been at a bar. |

So are you one of the two men in the story, in real life? Is this LPF related? Are lateral puzzles in general related? |

No (unless you count the cryptic clue - initials of the words in the clue spelled "prashck", which should become clear when you type it into the search box) |

RECAP: A man won The Game. How he did so is directly related to a conversation he had with another man in a bar. |

So they both realized that they were participating? And Man #1 died before he admitted that he lost? |

There was something that these men were trying to avoid thinking about? Were they trying not to think about death? Something else specific? Or the game itself? |

Was there something they were trying not to do? Trying not to say? Neither BLOOPER: "Or did something else spark the conversation" should be Yes to Yope. |

Was one of the men holding a sign? Or did one of them say "I lost"? Was there some other way that one man signalled his awareness of this idea of winning or losing? |

Did Man #1 know about the game? Before he talked to Man #2? Did Man #1 continue "losing" after the conversation with Man #1, but Man #1 didn't think about it much because he was drunk and didn't remember talking about it with Man #2? |

Did Man #1 know about the game? Before he talked to Man #2? No! Excellent question! Did Man #1 I assume you mean "Man #2" here... continue "losing" after the conversation with Man #1, but Man #1 didn't think about it much because he was drunk and didn't remember talking about it with Man #2? ...because this is exactly right. **********SPOILER********** Two men were having drinks in a bar, when one of them (Man #2) suddenly laughed and said "I just lost The Game." The other man (Man #1) had no idea what The Game was, so they conversed about it for a little while. However, Man #1 was drunk, and when he woke up the next day, he had no memory of the conversation, or of The Game. As such, he was able to go the rest of his life without thinking about The Game, and since he had heard about it, but never thought about it again, he won. Nice job, Ixoye, on the nearly solo solve. |

Wow! Great puzzle! I usually pass on puzzles that start with a 2 or 3 word snippet, but this one looked challenging and indeed it was. Good job of hosting and placing helpful hints! |

Thanks! I tend to stay away from those puzzles too, and try to avoid 2 or 3 word puzzle statements, but this was the most lateral (and probably most evil - heh heh) way I could put it. My next puzzle is (hopefully) a lot less evil.... |

I just lost the Game. (I hate having to announce it every time I lose it.) |
