Don't know what a prepared piano is, but anyway given the previous question it's time for ******************* SPOILER ****************** Mr. Yorke hears his neighbour, Mr. Greenwood, playing the piano. He recognizes the piece being played, and he knows it's a quite long and difficult one, so that in order to play it Mr. Greenwood needs someone turning the score pages at the right moment. Hence he deduces Mrs. Greenwood must be back home, otherwise his husband could not be playing that piece in the proper way.
