****** SPOILER ****** A recent report by Transportation for America and AARP revealed that Florida is the most dangerous state for pedestrians with 11% of the roughly 47, 700 pedestrians killed by cars between 2000 and 2009. (It comes out to over 5,000 deaths in Florida of the nearly 48,000 nationwide.) Florida also boasts the four worst cities for pedestrian safety. Imagine my surprise when I read the list (1. Orlando, 2. Tampa/St. Pete, 3. Jacksonville and 4. Miami/Ft. Lauderdale) and realized I’ve lived in three of the four for the last 20+ years. While I realize the numbers are so high (for Orlando and Tampa particularly) because of the really high number of tourists (who seem to think that they are magically immune from cars based on how they walk right out in front of oncoming traffic), I still feel really lucky to be here – safe and sound – while growing up in three of the four most dangerous cities in the nation for pedestrians! I would be HIGHLY unlikely to be at Disneyland (Isn't yours "land"??) seeing as I grew up in Greater Orlando and have been to all the parks more times than I can count (often on field trips for school). But the Mystery House? Nope, don't have one of those lurking around Orlando. | ||

This is why I said Disney World...yes, mine is "land", but I'd like to go back to Florida =) *has not been back to Florida since before Animal Kingdom was put in* *is a sad Kaylee kitteh on that account* Disneyland, however, is in Southern California (Anaheim) and not easy for Kaylee kitteh to get to, much as she would like to go back. |
