I recently found out I’m much luckier than I knew - part of the highest ranked national group, with ties to three out of the top four, and I’m not even dead yet! Go me!! So…why am I lucky?? |

HINT: While not an 'accident of birth', I didn't actively do anything to be included in those groups. Also, the end of the statement is more than a figure of speech. |

Is your luck due to economic status? religion? where you live? your profession? profession of someone you know? What exactly are you getting from this to make you consider it lucky - is it money? fame? association with someone/something famous? Are any of the others that you have ties with, dead? Do you have to be dead in order to be in such a 'group'? |

Indianforce Is your luck due to economic status? No religion? No where you live? This is on the right track, but NO for the specific question you've asked. your profession? No profession of someone you know? Nope, professions not relevant. What exactly are you getting from this to make you consider it lucky - is it money? No fame? no association with someone/something famous? No Perhaps less "getting" and more.... Are any of the others that you have ties with, dead? FA Do you have to be dead in order to be in such a 'group'? No, but death is relevant. Shez OMG! Vesica, are you dead? HA! While I am posting a zombie puzzle someday, it will likely not feature ME as the main person-of-interst. BUT, it is important I'm NOT dead...so NO! |

Are the "top 4" cities in Florida that are relevant? 4 things in Jacksonville that are relevant? Is it relevant that Jacksonville is the largest city? Do you live in Jacksonville? To clear up the FA, is Fla. the "highest ranked national group"? So the "top four" are subdivisions (counties? cities?) of the state of Florida? Air travel relevant? Other type of travel? (By land? By sea?) Is statistics relevant? (like highest number of passengers per day, etc)? (Number of) accidents relevant? Is it relevant if we distinguish between national and international travel? |

Kayleetonkslupin Are the "top 4" cities in Florida that are relevant? YES! 4 things in Jacksonville that are relevant? No Is it relevant that Jacksonville is the largest city? No (and I don't think it is. Or perhaps city but NOT "Metro Area".) Do you live in Jacksonville? No What Wikipedia knows about Jacksonville: None of this is relevant. Jacksonville's population is >500,000. Relevant? No The next largest cities are all >200,000. Relevant? Only that Jax has done some funky stuff with their city limits (the entire county is "the city", which is why Jax looks bigger than Orlando, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa...which it isn't as far as Metro Area.) City Population Metropolitan Area Miami 399,457 South Florida Tampa 335,709 Tampa Bay St. Petersburg 244,769 Tampa Bay Orlando 238,300 Greater Orlando Hialeah 224,669 South Florida I will help you non-Sunshine State folks... Population is NOT relevant. However: Orlando is relevant. Tampa/St. Pete is relevant. Miami/Ft. Lauderdale is relevant. Thought I would help you all since you won't know offhand which "cities" get combined into "Metro Areas". that looks messed up when I preview it...any way to make a table out of that thing? Dunno Travel between Jacksonville and other cities relevant? No Rbruma To clear up the FA, is Fla. the "highest ranked national group"? Yes! So the "top four" are subdivisions (counties? cities?) of the state of Florida? Cities (in FLA, see above for the cities.) Air travel relevant? No Other type of travel? Yes (By land? Yes By sea? No) Is statistics relevant? YES! (like highest number of passengers per day, etc)? No (Number of) accidents relevant? Yes... Is it relevant if we distinguish between national and international travel? International and National are not relevant here. |

Kayleetonkslupin so...not running to Wikipedia for once as I don't think it'll help me much...At this stage, it probably won't help much. is the number of car accidents in Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa/St. Pete, and Miami/Ft. Lauderdale (annually? monthly? on any given day?), relative to each other, relevant? Very VERY close, but it's not car accidents per se. Yes to the rest. It's the number of X over a 9 year period. Do you live in the one with the least amount of accidents? Nope so you're lucky because you're safest? No was it that the place you live used to have far more accidents? No, but OTRT maybe it was even the most accident-prone at some prior time? but now it's gotten a lot safer? No, not relevant. or...Kaylee is ridiculous...NEVER! perhaps you're lucky because you live in the one with the MOST vehicle accidents, and you haven't been injured (or killed, obviously...unless you're a ghost *suspicious look*) yet? This is absolutely OTRT, except for the bit about "vehicle accidents". (please don't get killed, you're too nice to end up dead like that =)I'd greatly prefer NOT to die. |

****** SPOILER ****** A recent report by Transportation for America and AARP revealed that Florida is the most dangerous state for pedestrians with 11% of the roughly 47, 700 pedestrians killed by cars between 2000 and 2009. (It comes out to over 5,000 deaths in Florida of the nearly 48,000 nationwide.) Florida also boasts the four worst cities for pedestrian safety. Imagine my surprise when I read the list (1. Orlando, 2. Tampa/St. Pete, 3. Jacksonville and 4. Miami/Ft. Lauderdale) and realized I’ve lived in three of the four for the last 20+ years. While I realize the numbers are so high (for Orlando and Tampa particularly) because of the really high number of tourists (who seem to think that they are magically immune from cars based on how they walk right out in front of oncoming traffic), I still feel really lucky to be here – safe and sound – while growing up in three of the four most dangerous cities in the nation for pedestrians! See my new puzzle at the bottom of the page! |

I would be HIGHLY unlikely to be at Disneyland (Isn't yours "land"??) seeing as I grew up in Greater Orlando and have been to all the parks more times than I can count (often on field trips for school). But the Mystery House? Nope, don't have one of those lurking around Orlando. |
