When all was lost, a saviour born A youth who stunned them all With short years to him, he saved his home Great heart, never two sizes too small. |

Am I in the right forest, or the right tent To ask if Christ is relevant? And could this be related to The Grinch, or Seuss, or Cindy Lou Who? Perhaps this will help solve the tale: Is this boy human, child, and male? And is this real, or created by An author, or is it FYOI? Did this boy a sacrifice make And did something the boy's life take? And can we call this hero Bob, Or maybe Vince, or Jeff, or Rob? (I personally would prefer Bob.) About the birthplace, tell me please Can I use an LTPF list of countries? And if not, then I'll be content If you tell me the continent. But then again, is this even Earth, Or possibly, was this boy's birth On another planet known to man Or in a mostly fictional land? |

About the rules I am not clear, So can you tell me this: Can our rhyme pattern differ from the author's, Or must we use his? (Forgive me for the sex bias, But I needed it to rhyme; I can also mention "hers," Which more applies this time.) Because there is a difference In our patterns, you see: While ABCB's what you used, I've used AABB. |

Not in the right forest, or the right tent, For Christ is not all relevant, And this is not related to, Dr. Seuss, the Grinch, or Cindy Lou Who. It will indeed help solve the tale This boy is not human, but he is indeed male. Child he was for part of this time, And he is real indeed, I say in this rhyme. No sacrifice did this young one make And only old age did his life take, Bob would be a most discouraging name For one of this youth's eminent fame Red is perhaps best, I think you will see, And is a small clue, between you and me. The birthplace, I deem, was the US of A, Though I cannot recall the precise place or day. This was indeed Earth, and a true tale, Nearly forty years ere now, so no aliens hail From this place in the very real USA, And I care not what rhyme scheme one uses to play. If there's a rule about rhyme scheme, I have yet to find; I just use whatever comes into my mind. |

So is Red then an animal, Maybe dog, cat, or bird? And is this story famous enough Of it all Americans have heard? And forty years seems to be a clue, So tell me, Kaylee, is it true That this was in the 60's, or earlier, or late? And know you the exact year or state? |

Red is an animal, of wondrous fame, it's true Though dog, cat or bird is not the case, It's nearly certain that like me, you Shall have heard his name and seen his face On big or small screen, I'd think This was in the 70's to make it clear That the records of others he did sink. Seventy-three I'm sure was the year If my information does not lie His star rose as he lost and won Though some wished him to die. No harm had Red intended, he just wanted to have fun. |

Is Red a mammal, or reptile, Amphibian, or insect vile? Or fish, or mollusk, or maybe An arachnid, or something as small as a flea? Because of the name, I need to know: Is that his real name? Is it so? Or is his color a red hue, Or are you tricking me when it's blue? |

Red is a mammal, of great fame So 'no' to the rest, But 'tis no shame 'Red' is half his birth name, But not his best known, His color is red, No tricks here I own. |

Was Red a biologic treasure, Whose genes were of unusual measure? Is his name related to The fact that his red hue Was unique, to a scientist's pleasure? |

One might call Red a biologic treasure His genes were spread to descendants in no small measure His name is related to The fact his red hue Existed, but not on scientist's pleasure. |

Was he red because humans changed his home In a way with a negative outcome? If so, did his color Show if change were abhorred That his species' time here would be done? |

I am not quite sure what is meant He was red in a natural sense It was his color at birth And his noble worth Was not proved by the color, but talent. We're not talking about a bright, vibrant red. "Red" like red hair or fur, not Crayola red. |

Is Red then a pet, Or a wild bear? Is the fur of Red Something you would wear? |

You might call Red a pet, Though this may mislead, A bear, certainly not, He was a fine steed. You would not wear his fur, For his coat one would not wear, He could be quite a fierce one, But as I said, not a bear. |

Was Red then a riding horse? I just want to make sure, of course, But since you said that he's a steed, This question may not have a need. |

Was Red a horse? A filly? A foal? Was he used for racing? Is he legend untold? Is he used by cowboys wielding lariats? Or - wild guess - is he Secretariat? |

He was indeed a riding horse, But more than that, so stay the course And find out what about Red was great I think soon this puzzle may meet its fate. |

Balin, my friend, you've done it again, I can always count on you my friend, Your guess, wild though it may seem, Struck the mark, and so ends this scene Where verse upon verse comes over the boiler And now it's all together, that is the ***SPOILER***! |

Secretariat was the focus of the recent movie of the same name, which I just went to see yesterday with my mom. He was one of the few horses to win the Triple Crown...the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes, and his record has never been beaten. He sired 600 foals after his retirement from racing, and is 35th among the greatest sports heroes of the 20th century...the only horse, or in fact only non-human, to get that honor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secretariat_(horse) |

Nice puzzle, Kaylee, once again - 'Twas the clue about heart that brought the end. From 31 lengths, a work of art, That horse truly had a great heart. |
