A prostitute named Bunny went out one night. She managed to get quite a few tricks, before being arrested by Officer Hunter. The next day she made bail, purchased an expensive dress and went to an upscale club. Officer Hunter was at the same club too. Due in part to Hunter's presence, Bunny didn't get many tricks. At the end of the evening, Officer Hunter hugged Bunny and she went home quite wealthy. How did she do it? |

would this story have ended the same way she hadn't been arrested the night before? The arrest is simply to establish that Hunter knows that Bunny is a prostitute and that he will enforce the law. |

didnt answer this part: so we're talking about an upscale club where a person can go in and play hearts? they playing in a hearts tournament? if the story would have ended the same way if she hadn't been arrested, does the solution involve a connection between the previous night's arrest and the 'win' at the hearts game? (struggling with the fact that the story would have ended the same if she hadn't been arrested the night before, seems like the first half of the story is irrelevant) does hunter know something about bunny from the previous night's arrest that helps him 'win' at the hearts game? a tell? were hunter and bunny partners in the hearts game? the fact that bunny didn't get any tricks lead to her winning? (going nil in hearts?) |

didnt answer this part: so we're talking about an upscale club where a person can go in and play hearts? Yes, sorry I ran the two questions together. they playing in a hearts tournament? Yes if the story would have ended the same way if she hadn't been arrested, does the solution involve a connection between the previous night's arrest and the 'win' at the hearts game? No, See above post. (struggling with the fact that the story would have ended the same if she hadn't been arrested the night before, seems like the first half of the story is irrelevant) I realize that the two could have been more tightly joined. It's a Rookie mistake. However, see above post. does hunter know something about bunny from the previous night's arrest that helps him 'win' at the hearts game? a tell? No, he didn't win were hunter and bunny partners in the hearts game? No the fact that bunny didn't get any tricks lead to her winning? (going nil in hearts?) No, the word is MANY not ANY, but close. |

Yeah I added that post when I saw how the two halves of the story were loosely joined and too misleading. This is a learning experience for me. I appreciate the feedback. I will post an alternative writing of the story with the spoiler that would have worked better. But for now it is too late. However, I still believe the puzzle is solvable. |

In hearts if you don't take many tricks, that's good, because that means you don't take many points, and the goal is to have the fewest points at the end of the game. Did Bunny win the tournament? Because she took the fewest number of points? Did Hunter lose the tournament? Come in second place? |

So it is established that Bunny went home quite wealthy because she won at the hearts tournament, which was very legal. What remains to be solved? Why Hunter hugged her? How did she manage to win (other than sheer luck, I suppose)? Anything else? |

************* SPOILER ************** Bunny was "turning tricks" to get enough money to enter a Hearts tournament with a large entry fee and a large prize. She also needed a proper dress to be admitted. By coincidence Officer Hunter was playing in the tournament as well. He was so surprised by the transformation of Bunny and her playing ability that he was "off his game" and came in second. Hunter hugged Bunny as a form of congratulations, for winning the tournament and the prize money. If I were "rewriting" the puzzle today I would have made it like this. A prostitute named Bunny went out one night. She managed to get quite a few tricks, before being arrested and booked by Officer Hunter, an almost weekly occurrence. The next day she made bail, purchased an expensive dress and went to an upscale club. Officer Hunter was at the same club too, and surprised to see bunny. Due in part to Hunter's presence, Bunny didn't get many tricks. At the end of the evening, Officer Hunter hugged Bunny and she went home quite wealthy. Explain? Officer Hunter had become friends with Bunny. In fact he had been teaching Bunny how to play Hearts. He told her that evening about a charity Hearts tournament, with a large cash prize, which he was going to attend. She purchased a proper dress and entered the tournament. Hunter was so surprised by the transformation of the prostitute and her playing ability that he was "off his game" and came in second. When she won, Officer Hunter hugged Bunny because he was happy that she won and that she could get out of prostitution. |
