Ignited with a banana? No. Which is on fire? It's thrown into fire, and makes pretty sparks. Like iron filings, but brighter and whiter. The puzzle would work equally well with iron filings. |

Damage - burn damage? Not neccessarily. Are you afraid the titanium might get thrown from the fire and hit someone? Causing burning/scalding/whatever else happens when you get hit with hot metal? No. Hint: the puzzle statement describes two separate situations. The first one is throwing metal powder into fire. |

Is the battery charger going to be used to start the fire? No. To allow the metal powder to actually spark? It will make the metal powder spark. "Being used to" is the problematic formulation. Would the electricity in the battery charger count as sparks? Not normally, but... Is there metal powder inside batteries? No, but you're close! I have no idea what's inside a battery I do....and so this recharges them, making sparks? The battery charger would normally not make sparks, but... Hint: the whole situation is undesirable and accidental. |

Is the metal powder inside the charger? Yes! **SPOILER** I brought the metal powder to the skydiving club to make some nice sparks at the fire in the evening. I did not end up using any, but put it in my bag for the trip home. When I came home, I found that the container had opened and it had been spilled all over my stuff. I managed to salvage nearly all of it (luckily, as titanium is expensive), but I'm worried that some of it is stuck inside the battery charger I brought for my camera, and that it will short out (and spark) when connected to power. I have vacuum cleaned it, and will take it apart and inspect it before I use it, so hopefully it will be okay. |
