If they hadn't been too early, it would not be as iconic.

Likely a quickie - I suspect some of you will know this one.

They = Human? Adult? Male/female? Are there [LTPF list of integers] of them?
Is this a true story? FYOI? FSEI? Did it happen in [LTPF list of continents]? [LTPF List of Centuries]?
Were they early for: a party? Some other gathering to which they were guests? Some gathering which they would have been at but may not have been guests (like a concert that they were singing at?) Or were they simply ahead of their time for doing something?

They: H/A/M?
The early bird catches the worm? Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise?
The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese?

Is this a true story? This FYOI? FSEI? Did it happen in [LTPF list of continents]? North America [LTPF List of Centuries]? 20th
Were they early for: a party? Some other gathering to which they were guests? Some gathering which they would have been at but may not have been guests (like a concert that they were singing at?) Or were they simply ahead of their time for doing something? This - no to rest, although it was Yopishly a "concert", though they weren't singing.

They: H/A/M? HA-Mixed
The early bird catches the worm? No Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise? No
The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese? No, but what does the first mouse get?

Are any of them relevant as individuals? Or only as a group? If so, are there [LTPF list of integers] relevant individuals? Are [LTPF list of integers] of them male? Female? Did it happen in [LTPF list of North American Countries]? (If USA also substitute LTPF list of states). Also, did it happen in [LTPF list of decades]? Technology relevant? Electronics? Youtube?

Are any of them relevant as individuals? One of them, more so, but... Or only as a group? ...mainly this. If so, are there [LTPF list of integers] relevant individuals? Overall, there are *does math* 156, including the group. Are [LTPF list of integers] of them male? The group of 144 is HA-Mixed. The other 22 are HAM. Female? Did it happen in [LTPF list of North American Countries]? (If USA also substitute LTPF list of states). California Also, did it happen in [LTPF list of decades]? 1980s Technology relevant? Electronics? Youtube? None of these, although there is a clip of the event on YouTube.

Uh, 144+22 is 166, not 156. Did you do math badly, or is one of these a typo? Are the other 22 (HAM) also a group? Can we call the group of 144 the Fun Group and the 22 males the Little Men's Group?

You mentioned it was yope a concert. Was the Little Men's Group the one performing? Was the Fun Group present? The Little Men's Group? Politics relevant? Ronald Reagan? (California movie star who elected president in 1980s.)

Are the other 22 (HAM) also a group? They are two groups. Can we call the group of 144 the Fun Group Sure and the 22 males the Little Men's Group? Sadly, we cannot - see first answer.

You mentioned it was yope a concert. Right, but there was another event that supersedes the yopish-concert. Was the Little Men's Group the one performing? No Was the Fun Group present? Yes The Little Men's Group? Both groups in the 22 were present. Politics relevant? No Ronald Reagan? No (California movie star who elected president in 1980s.) "Ronald Reagan?? The actor??"

Let's call the two groups among the 22 the Doodle Group and the Food Group, ok? Does the Doodle Group have [LTPF list of integers less than 22] members? Does the Food Group?

Is the Doodle Group:
Band members?
Criminals?
Mafia?
Athletes?
Sports Teams?
Co-workers?
Bosses for the same company?
Police?
Fire Men?
Doctors?
Emergency workers?
Construction workers?
Zookeepers?
Teachers?
Prostitutes?
Foreigners?
Illegal immigrants?
USA Soldiers?
Foreign (neutral) soldiers?
Enemy soldiers?
National Guard?
Secret Service?
FBI?
CIA?
Restuarant Waitstaff?
Extraterrestrials?
Escaped convicts?
Dog trainers?
Movie stars?
Porn stars?
LTPF members?
People with the surname "Koch"?
Just fans at the concert?
People attending the other event?
Same questions for the Food Group? Fun Group? Do any of the individuals in any of the groups belong under any of these headers?

Is the other event:
Politically related?
Involving a death?
Involving multiple deaths?
Involving destruction of property?
Mass chaos?
A marriage proposal?
A speech?
An assassination attempt?
A successful one?
Another performance?
An appearance by someone famous?
A murder?
A robbery?
A bomb?
A bomb threat?
A nuclear attack?
Alien invasion?
Evacuation?
Hurricane?
Earthquake?
Other meteorological disaster?
Other non-weather disaster? (like pipe burst or oil spill)?
Animal attack?

Was it scheduled (as in announced in advance)? Planned but secret? Spontaneous? Illegal? Relevant who was performing at the concert?

RECAP: A marching band at a football game did something too early, which, had they not done it, likely would have caused a certain moment in the game to be less iconic than it is.

Stanford-Cal? Band on the field? And the trombone player gets run over? And Cal Wins? Yes to all - we've got ourselves a

**********SPOILER**********

In 1982, the Cal-Stanford game came down to the final play - Stanford was up 20-19 with 4 seconds left; all they had to do was kick off and stop Cal on the return in order to clinch the victory. So convinced was the Stanford marching band of the win that they counted down from 4 as soon as a Cal player touched the ball, and when the clock hit zero, they marched onto the field and began playing.

Unfortunately, the play was still going on: the Cal players lateraled the ball to each other to prevent the game-ending tackle. After 5 laterals, Kevin Moen ended up with the ball, and sprinted into the end zone with the game-winning touchdown, knocking over one of the Stanford trombone players in the process.

The play - now immortalized as "The Play" - would probably not have been as iconic as it is now had the band not come out on the field in mid-play.

Nice job, everyone, with bonus points to Gregory for the leap that solved this "lateral" (*groan*) puzzle.

A couple of videos: The Play
And a similar play from 2007 involving 15 (!!!) laterals

Again, nice job.

And look up the River City Relay- New Orleans gets a 4-lateral 80 yard touchdown on the final play, and just needs an extra point to send it into Overtime and keep their playoff hopes alive. They miss it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Od9C2dKiCI

After the River City one, I remember Carney got slammed by pretty much EVERYONE for a while.
