Did his shoes increase (in any relevant way) his height, as in the old classic about the knife-thrower's assistant? Is it relevant that they increased his weight? Was he in water? Did his shoes attract a shark? Was he a blacksmith? A dealer in a casino? Or does 'shoes' just mean the regular footwear, as worn by OH on his feet? Was he murdered? |

Forgot to ask: is this a true story? Is the man's profession relevant? Is it something relevant about the particular type of shoes he was wearing? |

Did he ingest the poison directly (as in eating or drinking something tainted)? Or did some kind of poison come in contact with his skin? You've said that he did not die immediately but over time - is this the "time" that it took for the poison to take effect on his body? Is it safe to assume that he came into direct contact with some harmful substance? Or breathed in toxic fumes? Or was injected with something toxic? |

Rewording...relevant what he was poisoned with? Yes. Was it found in the home? No. Was he poisoned gradually, over a long period of time? Or all at once? Over the course of several hours. Did he die very shortly after being poisoned? A long time after? See below. Did he ingest the poison directly (as in eating or drinking something tainted)? Or did some kind of poison come in contact with his skin? This. You've said that he did not die immediately but over time - is this the "time" that it took for the poison to take effect on his body? Indeed. Is it safe to assume that he came into direct contact with some harmful substance? Correct. Or breathed in toxic fumes? Possibly, but this was not the main issue. Or was injected with something toxic? No. |

Well I guess that if something toxic spilled into his shoes and he didn't know it, and the toxic material stayed in the shoes long enough to penetrate the skin it could kill him. Or, if he'd taken off his shoes he would have probably noticed by odor or by sock damage that something toxic was on his feet and at least washed them, and also likely called poison control...any of this correct? |

Good enough for a ***SPOILER*** This unfortunate painter spilled toxic methanol over his pants and shoes. Maybe he didn't know about the danger, or just underestimated it. Maybe he thought it would evaporate quickly. In any case he walked around in the moist shoes for several hours. He died the next day. I wasn't able to find the story again, but I read it while reading up on the dangers of methanol. I make it a point to always read extensively about a new chemical before using it. This is what I use it for (the guy is a fellow skydiver and pyromaniac, the methanol is mixed with boric acid to give the color): http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs625.snc4/58579_10150281093995201_556810200_14899570_6123863_n.jpg |
