A combination neologism and theory puzzle.... My English teacher related to me (and my class) the "First Rule of Loirpsing." What does the verb "to loirpse" mean, and what is the rule? |

Buttercup, don't break my heart? All right, probably wrong kind of puzzle. Does Loirpsing have anything to do with: Writing? If so: - Reports? - Essays? - Projects of some other sort? Reading? If so: - Textbooks? - Assigned reading? Researching? |

Buttercup, don't break my heart? All right, probably wrong kind of puzzle. Well, the title is relevant, and it does refer to the next word in the song.... Does Loirpsing have anything to do with: Writing? If so: - Reports? - Essays? - Projects of some other sort? Reading? If so: - Textbooks? - Assigned reading? Researching? No to all - this has nothing to do with his job as an English teacher. |

Cooking? With butter? Margarine? Cholestorol? Fat? Heart attacks? Dying? Getting fat? Really fat? Having a blood pressure of 160 over 111? Weighing 400 pounds because you eat a cup of butter every day? Oh, since I just made a Capitol Steps reference in another puzzle, is "I Wrecked My Heart on Spam and Crisco" relevant? |

Weighing 400 pounds because you eat a cup of butter every day? No to all - think about how "Buttercup" is used in the song. Oh, since I just made a Capitol Steps reference in another puzzle, is "I Wrecked My Heart on Spam and Crisco" relevant? Not one bit, as long as you don't try to negate those two by drinking lots of Diet Koch. (Couldn't resist....) |

Are The Foundations relevant? No "Buttercup" = a woman? Yes - fictional and HAF, in this puzzle. The singer's girlfriend? Lover? Neither, though she is a girlfriend/lover in the work of fiction she is from (which should be quite obvious now). Diet Coke relevant, since you couldn't resist it? Cherry Coke? Mr. Coke? Mr. Koch? Mr. Kotch? No to all - neither Koch nor Coke is relevant. The first rule of dumping one's girlfriend/boyfriend/significant other is ... No ... if it's a few days before your birthday, always wait for your present first? No, although I do know a case where this occurred right before Christmas. That person was steamed.... |

Okay, so, going by Wiki's character list, we have (I'll put characters in italics who've already been called irrelevant) : Cary Elwes as Westley Robin Wright as Buttercup Chris Sarandon as Prince Humperdinck Mandy Patinkin as Inigo Montoya Christopher Guest as Count Tyrone Rugen André the Giant as Fezzik Wallace Shawn as Vizzini Peter Falk as The Grandfather/Narrator Fred Savage as The Grandson Billy Crystal as Miracle Max Carol Kane as Valerie, Max's wife Margery Mason as The Ancient Booer, a woman in Buttercup's dreams who mocks her for giving up true love. Mel Smith as The Albino, assistant torturer to Count Rugen Peter Cook as The Impressive Clergyman, the clergyman at Humperdinck and Buttercup's wedding; he cannot pronounce his R's or L's and is forced to cut to the end of the ceremony proceedings by the prince. Anne Dyson as The Queen, mother of Prince Humperdinck. Malcolm Storry as Yellin, a soldier of Florin. Willoughby Gray as The King, father of Prince Humperdinck Betsy Brantley as The Mother |

I can't remember, and Wiki just says "the clergyman." I can't find my copy of it to watch. I did find this on IMDb, which was fun, though unrelated: "The giant rodents were created with diminutive actors inside rat suits. On the day Westley was supposed to battle the giant rat, the "rat actor" was pulled over for speeding and subsequently arrested, and actually had to be bailed out of jail by the filmmakers so the scene could be filmed." Oh, and the director voiced all the ROUS-es. |

hmmmm...the first rule of officiating a wedding is...always pronounce names correctly? and if reading it don't read the part that says "note the spelling"...lol Not exactly; the rule is very tongue-in-cheek. But this is close enough. **********SPOILER********** According to my high school English teacher, who is also an ordained minister, the first rule of officiating a wedding ("loirpsing", as I dubbed it) is this: Never, ever, ever, watch The Princess Bride, especially the wedding scene, because if you do, you will want to start every wedding with "Mawwaige." Excellent job to the Nield sisters, Kaylee and Tortie, for all the hard work. |
