LTPF = more understanding than aforementioned "they"? Yes, and probable FA seeing your next question. Who are not the LTPF members? Well, there is a chance that some of "them" have an account on the LTPF, you never know. But "they" are only relevant as a group.

Understanding = Being able to comprehend a concept? Or being sympathetic concerning other persons' emotions and needs?Only a limited number (probably on the order of 2 or 3) are directly at fault in this situation. However, "They" as a whole consists of far too many people to count.

Just FYI, I looked on "their" website and found that "they" are around 275,000 people. Not that this total number has any relevance, mind you.

They - people who have done something in common? They all have defined roles in their capacity as "them", but not all the same role. Technically they did all have to do something to become "them", but there is a much more straightforward way to describe this.

Is religion relevant? And there's an initiation ritual, such as being baptized? No to all

Or do you have to pass a test to become a member?Potentially, though probably not, at least of the pencil-and-paper variety. And "member" is really the wrong word. Is it Mensa? No

Or do you have to do something to prove yourself in a way?Yes, almost definitely, but beware FA Are fraternities relevant? No

Or do they simply have to hand in a membership request? No, there is almost definitely more. And I wouldn't exactly call it a "membership request" either.

Citizenship of Gregory Coke Land relevant? :-D No, ad I have no clue what that is.

Hint: Most of you likely have applied to become part of a similar type of "group" as "them" at some point in your life.

Ask gregoryuconn, aka Mr. Koch, Mr. Coke, etc...As if calling him Mr. Coke wasn't enough, we've made a new joke. It all started with Rbruma's puzzle about changing passwords. Then it got swept up into my latest Lateral Adventure. And no, I'm not sorry, lol. *grin* Of course, should Mr. Coke ever think of a way to tease me back in return, I shall take it as my due. It's all good fun here.

But I suppose they're not aware of their incompetence, are they? Do they consider their goal as something good? Maybe even something that changes the world for the better?

Are politics relevant? Is environmental protection? Economics? Health? Any kind of feminism? Or the "male" variant thereof, whatever it is called?

Are (online) petitions relevant?

Or do they explicitly state that they don't care about... whatever?

Have they made their website themselves? Or is it a website on which others post stuff about them, such as Failblog (even though I don't think that the homepage in question is Failblog).

In order to become one of them, do you have to get in touch with one of them in some way? Or do you automatically become one of them once you did a certain thing even without ever having contact with any of them?

But I suppose they're not aware of their incompetence, are they? No, or if they do they don't care Do they consider their goal as something good? Maybe even something that changes the world for the better? I think you have the wrong kind of "goal" in mind. Politics or philanthropy are very much OTWT. Remember, "organization" did not get a full "Yes", because there is a much better term.

Are politics relevant? Is environmental protection? Economics? Health? Any kind of feminism? Or the "male" variant thereof, whatever it is called? The only one that is even remotely relevant is "economics", which gets a yope. And there is a movement called "masculism" that pushes for, e.g., fathers' custody rights, but such could not be less relevant to this puzzle.

Are (online) petitions relevant?No

Or do they explicitly state that they don't care about... whatever? No, such would be a VERY bad move, because...

Have they made their website themselves?Yes Or is it a website on which others post stuff about them, such as Failblog (even though I don't think that the homepage in question is Failblog). No, though maybe some people have posted their bad experiences with these people on some blog.

In order to become one of them, do you have to get in touch with one of them in some way? Or do you automatically become one of them once you did a certain thing even without ever having contact with any of them?No you have to apply. I don't know how demanding the process is, it probably depends what you will do for them.

I don't know why you are all ignoring the obvious, at least what I think is the obvious. In what context is the word "incompetent" usually used?

Do they work for the same company?YES

Do "they" belong to the same industry?"They" are a corporation, so yes. Transportation maybe? Yope or yesish, depending on how you define "transportation". IT&C? I assume you mean IT in the sense of information technology, in which case no.

********************RECAP**********************

In some instance, a "computer-related thing" ("related" is important, as it was not a computer in the conventional sense) seemed like it could have been more understanding than a particular corporation, at least the employees I had to deal with.

Then, upon posting this puzzle, there was a (joking, this time) way in which the LTPF seemed to be more understanding than them as well. But now that I know more, it turns out that it was very premature to say this, and in fact now the LTPF now "seems" to be the worst. Remember this latter connection is silly though.

Apologies in advance if any of you turn out to work for this company, I trust you are not anywhere near as bad at your job as the subjects of this puzzle.

Oh, and I realize I missed the second half of Rbruma's questions, but the answer should be obvious now. Namely, most people apply to work at a company at some point in their lives because few people are permanently self-employed. I did not mean that they have applied to a company in the same industry, but it seemed everyone was making the FA that, because I didn't give "organization" a flat out "No", that "they" must be some kind of nonprofit.

Did it affect something you were sending? Or something that had to be delivered to you? Was it sent too late? Or earlier than you had expected? Was it sent at all? Did it get lost? And couldn't be retrieved? Was a larger package sent to you while you weren't at home and you found out on the internet that you should go to the company's agency to get it but the delivery person failed to forward the notification to you so if you hadn't happened to track your delivery online, you would never have found out about the whole thing?

(Well, it's probably not the latter but that very same thing happened to me today. Argh!)

This is actually quite like what happened. Except in my case it was that the company (FedEx, if you care) made no effort to arrange a way for them to actually be let into my apartment building, so they failed to deliver it three times. And sorry that something similar happened to you.

It's at the point now where further exploration of the delivery is rather irrelevant. You could try and work out exactly what they did each time, but that would be boring. It's more important now to figure out WTF the "computer-related thing" is, and why it seemed "understanding". As a hint, for the original puzzle statement it is relevant only that "they" were a company that refused to address customer concerns--the fact that they are in the package delivery industry is immaterial. For the joking "addendum", the fact that they were supposed to deliver something is relevant.

Hint: Note from above that it is not something that the average person would have any need to own, though as I said above, there is a related thing that the majority of people do use. When the device is being used, the users interact with these indirectly, i.e. while not in the same room as the device.

Oh, and clarification: My, well, use of the word "use" was ambiguous above. Both the home and commercial versions of the device are "used" mostly by people other than those who buy them, and this "use" takes place over a distance. So it's clearest to say that the majority of people possess the home version, but few possess the one involved in this puzzle. However, most people have "used" both types in the remote sense.

Sprinklers? (for lawn and/or fire protection) No, those are not electronic. And how would one use them from a distance? Walk by them and get sprayed to cool off?

Something to do with a server? No, but they sort of play an vaguely analogous role of "servers" in a somewhat older form of communication.

Remember, probably quite few people have actually bought, set up, or programmed these things (aside from the simpler home version), but nearly everyone has used someone else's in a remote manner. Keep in mind, also, the situation, which is that of dealing with a company that fails to provide a service.

Voicemail relevant?YES

****************RECAP******************************

Recently I had to deal with FedEx in relation to a package they failed to deliver several times. In the process, while using their automatic voicemail, I noticed something that suggested the voicemail was "more understanding" than the company's employees. The question is how?

Also, after posting a puzzle about this incident (namely this one), I experienced something that (prematurely, at the time) suggested that the LTPF was also more understanding in a different way. Unlike the one with the voicemail, which could have happened just as well with any type of company, this one relied on the fact that I was expecting a delivery.

Did it use a voice-recognition system to place your call? Instead of a push-button one? It did, but this alone I would definitely not consider "understanding" because those things make far more mistakes than the push-button ones. I'd much have preferred to press buttons.

Did the voicemail start by saying something that answered your question?I wish it did! But no.

Oh, and I'm just realizing I may have misinterpreted the last question. At no point did the employees know, or the voicemail seem to know, what was in the package and why I needed it. But the "understanding" had something to do with expediency.

Did it shut off? Delete a message? Refuse to record a message? Cut off the message mid-sentence? FA. Maybe "voicemail" isn't exactly the write word. It was a system that asks callers what they are calling about, and either looks up the information automatically or puts callers through to customer service.

Close enough.

*****************SPOILER****************************

As part of the very long process of trying to get FedEx to deliver my package, I called their customer service line a few times. One time, I had gotten through all the menus, and had chosen to speak to a representative, when I was informed by the automated system that the representatives were very busy, and I was asked whether I wanted to hold or use one of their automated services.

Of course, I chose to hold for a representative, but despite this, the system went back to the beginning of the first menu! At this point I was very frustrated, and started cursing at the system as well as yelling my menu choices. Almost immediately, the automated voice was interrupted by a representative picking up. It may have just been that the system was holding all along, and decide to repeat the menu in the meantime just in case I changed my mind, but I wondered if they had programmed a "curse detector" that fast-tracks customers to their employees.

Though the employee told me that the delivery would be reattempted, he refused to address the main issue, which is how the driver would let me know he was outside. Later that afternoon, just as I posted this puzzle, a FedEx truck drove up, but the driver left as soon as he realized there was a gate, and before I could let him in. I finally got the package the next day.
