The fact that Jack could tie his shoe amused many including himself, but angered several others. |

Singular shoe relevant? Does Jack usually wear/use this shoe? Does this have anything to do with an old or current tv show? Is the title of the puzzle less than 50% relevant? More than 50%? |

Singular shoe relevant? Yes, somewhat Does Jack usually wear/use this shoe? Yes - good q Does this have anything to do with an old or current tv show? Not that I'm aware of, no Is the title of the puzzle less than 50% relevant? More than 50%? Tough to answer - the title's relevance is of a low percentage (depending on how you mean this question), it's merely a reference to the action described in the puzzle itself |

Are others angered by the method by which Jack ties his somewhat singular shoe? No, not the method Is Jack considered not old enough to be able to tie his somewhat singular shoe? Not the case (see below) Is Jack missing phalanges/hand(s)? No Does the 'could' refer to ability or permission? Good q - it does not refer to ability; the idea of permission is involved to some degree but there is a more fitting term |

Does Jack have only one foot for his somewhat singular sneaker? Hmmm. Allowance? Consent? Legality/regulation? Protocol? Tradition? Angered as in offended or as in jealous or as in frightened? Does Jack have servants who normally do the tying for him? Has Jack been given some sort of medical order not to attempt such actions? |

Slightly offended but not jealous or frightened Does Jack have servants who normally do the tying for him? No Has Jack been given some sort of medical order not to attempt such actions? No |

Is 'authorize' a better term? No, but it's not far off Is the amusement sardonic (i.e., are Jack and others amused because they didn't think that those in authority would trust him to do so?) Yes, this is the reason for the amusement, and you have the right idea about Jack not thinking that others would permit this action, however the others are not in authority over Jack |

Was it the tying in particular that angered the people? Or was it merely the act of squatting down? Would they have been angry if Jack had picked up something from the ground, for example? Are the positions of the involved persons relevant? If so: Had Jack been standing before he tied his shoe? Or sitting? Same questions about the people who were amused and those who were angered. |

Was it the tying in particular that angered the people? Something about it, yes Or was it merely the act Yes...of squatting down?...but he didn't squat down, although if he had the reaction would have been the same. Would they have been angry if Jack had picked up something from the ground, for example? Perhaps, although this isn't really possible in this situation Are the positions of the involved persons relevant? Yes If so: Had Jack been standing before he tied his shoe? Yes Or sitting? No Same questions about the people who were amused and those who were angered. A safe assumption is that the majority were sitting and a minority of them were standing |

So...was he, say, standing in front of the basketball hoop and when an opposing player went to make the shot, he realized his shoe was untied, bent down to tie it, the shot was made and when he stood up a second later the ball bounced off his head and into (or away from) the basket? (I have no idea if this is anywhere close to right...also I've never seen a professional basketball game, the most I've seen is my uncle and cousin messing around with a basketball in the driveway) |

During the game? Was he on the field? While his team was playing offense? Defense? Did it happen in the beginning of the game? Sometime in the middle? Near the end? Was his team losing? Winning? Was it pretty much of a tie and his attention was actually really important? Or was it rather the contrary? Him being so sure of losing that he thought it wouldn't matter if he didn't focus on the game anymore? And his teammates and fans of his team were angry? Or was he so confident of winning that he could afford not paying attention? And the other team and their fans were the ones who were angry? |

No, it's somewhat the opposite of this (I have no idea if this is anywhere close to right...also I've never seen a professional basketball game, the most I've seen is my uncle and cousin messing around with a basketball in the driveway) Not far off, just switch a key piece of the info During the game? Yes Was he on the field? Yes While his team was playing offense? Yes Defense? So no Did it happen in the beginning of the game? Sometime in the middle? Near the end? Yes, it was near the end of the game Was his team losing? No Winning? Yes Was it pretty much of a tie and his attention was actually really important? No, his team had a good size lead Or was it rather the contrary? Somewhat Him being so sure of losing No, not sure of losing... that he thought it wouldn't matter if he didn't focus on the game anymore? Well his actions seem to indicate that he may have been thinking this very thing And his teammates and fans of his team were angry? Not of his team, no... Or was he so confident of winning that he could afford not paying attention? Yes, at least his actions indicate this possible mindset And the other team and their fans were the ones who were angry? YES |

Was he controlling the ball before he tied his shoe? YES, and also...After?...yes Did Jack receive a technical foul for tying his shoe? No The key to it was that he had possession of the ball during live gameplay when he opted to stop, tuck the ball under his arm (with the clock running), and bend over and tie his shoe. This gets us to the... SPOILER The NBA game was televised live (this actually happened, and the player's name is actually Jack), and the commentators could not believe that none of the opposing players tried to steal the ball, they simply watched him tie his shoe. Shortly after he did this the clock was stopped. The commentators continued to speak critically about the opposing players who watched the stunt, and there were some boos from the crowd whose team was not only losing badly to Jack's team, but apparently had a bunch of players with no clue about what to do during a "shoe-tying." |
