Maybe it's just me, but the comment makes the speaker sound British, and possibly rather old-fashioned...or at least like someone out of a Sherlock Holmes story. *grin* Was that the intention?

Were the items commonly used for cleaning before the advent of SC Johnson Wax and other companies that produce a rainbow of cleaning products (iow, in the same way that a common liquid consumable used to be the usual fluid used to clean windows?)

Might close this off soon if there is no more interest in it. But to give one last kick, here's a hint. The program series is hosted by two middle-aged women in the UK, the same two women seem to have done the US version (with a slightly different title), while other countries have bought the concept and made their own versions.

Crime in the area relevant? Violence? Living in the ghetto? Nothing at all like that, I'm afraid. I would say that more so than 'living environment', 'living conditions' might be a better description. The thing they have in common is, what most people would call, a character flaw.

How Clean is Your House? That's the one. And then it's time for a

***********SPOILER**************

One day I stumbled across an episode of this programme series. And for anyone not knowing what it's about, it's two middle-aged women, Kim Woodburn and Aggie MacKenzie, cleaning up people's dirty houses. And those houses were really discustingly dirty, one man wouldn't even use his own bathroom, that's how dirty it was.

During the process of cleaning they would also give hints and tips to the residents, often using everyday objects you would find in your cupboard or bathroom shelf. Like weak tea in a spray bottle to clean glass, or how to use vinegar to get rid of limescale, or toothpaste to remove stains from walls and switches, or a glass bowl with a sliced orange and lemon cleans the microwave if you run in on full power for at least 5 minutes. One of my definite favourites is using salt to get tea stains out of mugs, and also mixing lemon juice and olive oil to treat wooden furniture.

So I discovered that ordinary food items could be used for a lot of different things!!
