the thing that caused the accusation.. something he said? a statement? an answer to a question? a question? an order? something he did? how he treated another person? another person of a different race? a customer? are any of these relevant about Merton: his job? his race? his politics? his hobbies? his pets? his education? his physical appearance? his place of residence? his age? his gender? his wealth? his family? his romantic relationships? his musical tastes? his religion? relevant when this happens? modern day? relevant where this happens? US? is his defence that he did not do/say what others thought he did? that he did it but they misunderstood? that he did it but it wasn't racist? is his defence that he was acting in the best interests of the person to whom he was accused of being racist? that the person was not of the race that others thought them to be? | ||

The landlord successfully defended himself by replying that substantial percentages of his tenants were either black or single, but that he did not rent to lawyers because he did not want tenants who knew their rights!Imagine admitting that you do not want to rent to people who know their rights!! | ||
