Since you all knocked off my last scrund puzzle, how about another one... A man in Connecticut gave his son a ridiculous scrund, saying that it was good for business, before dope-slapping him. What is the scrund? Yes, this is a true story. |

Man in CT = your father? Was the scrund literally about conducting business? Does it matter how long the scrund went uncorrected? Did the slap coincide with the realization that the scrund was untrue? Is a dope-slap anything like a Gibbs-slap? |

It works only for the English language because... a pun is involved? a certain word? the spelling of a word? the pronunciation? an idiom? a proverb? Does the son say something between being given the scrund and being dope-slapped? Relevant? Any cities in CT relevant? Places? Events? Politics? Sports? |

I believe the term "hooker" as in prostitute comes from Thomas Hooker, who had prostitutes called "Hooker's girls". I'm not so sure about that; the Internet has provided several possible etymologies for the word "hooker" to mean "prostitute." But... Relevant? ...yes, the scrund involved mistaking (Thomas) "Hooker" with "hooker." Founding of Connecticut relevant? Founding of Hartford? Each year, organizations and citizens of Hartford dress up in outrageous costumes to celebrate Hooker Day with the Hooker Day Parade. T-shirts sold in the Old State House proclaim "Hartford was founded by a Hooker." Right on - **********SPOILER********** One of my dad's co-workers was talking with another person about the Hooker Day Parade in Hartford, commemorating the founding of the city by Reverend Thomas Hooker. The co-worker's son overheard this, and asked about this "Hooker Day Parade," as he knew nothing about it. Just to tease him, the co-worker told him that it was a "hooker day parade" celebrating prostitutes, saying things like "Yeah, the pimps line the street, it's really good for business." AND HE BOUGHT IT!! According to my dad's account, the son was thinking "this must be the best town ever!" before Mr. Co-worker slapped him upside the head for his gullibility. The scrund that the Hooker Day Parade was to celebrate prostitution...was no more. Nice work everyone, nice solve Kaylee, next puzzle (an' it's a big one) at the bottom. |
