Ok Eli, now it's my turn at stupid students I've encountered at UConn (plus maybe a few others)

Here goes...

Yeah, he's Vernon's son.

Vernon: H/A/M?
"He": H/A/M? H/T/M? H/C/M?
Is "he" really Vernon's son, or is the statement being sarcastic?

You missed Jenburdoo's questions...

Is "Vernon" actually Vernon's name?

Vernon - real? Fictional? An animal? A pig (aka a HAM)?

Is this from a book? Movie?

Is this in connection with a particular subject? If so, LTPF list of subjects. Define "subject"? If it's academic subject, no.

Is "Vernon" actually Vernon's name? This is a tricky one.... I'm going to say yes, but this could mislead..

Vernon - real? Yes, could mislead Fictional? An animal? A pig (aka a HAM)? None of these

Is this from a book? Movie? None.

The "it" in the puzzle statement - a person? No Another town? I don't believe it's a town but rather a "Census-designated place", but for the purpose of this puzzle, you can assume it's a town.

Well, I should throw my hat in the ring, seeing as I live about 20 minutes from Vernon, CT. I would say it's definitely a town.

Is this puzzle about a Uconn student? Something a Uconn student said, did? People from Vernon? Anything that's in Vernon? Bars? Billiard halls? (There isn't much more in Vernon that I know of. The "Dirty Bird" relevant (a dive bar in Vernon where people play poker and watch sports)?

You said: "Is he H/A/M? Yope-ish to Human and Mail, irrelevant/Yope/FA to Adult A statue? No"

Is "Mail" a typo, or relevant that you did not say "Male"?

Is the Census designated place Storrs? Uconn? As it is not really a town, but rather just a place inside another town, Mansfield?

Connecticut history relevant? Town lines? Huskies? Anything on Uconn campus relevant?

OK, I'm far gone.

Could you please recap? It will be easier after I answer the following questions. So hold that thought.

So "he" is a town? he is the census-designated place. Close enough.

Was the name of the town also a first name given to people (like Vernon)? Yesish/Yope Did the stupid student misinterpret the name of the town as the name of a person? yes!

Well, I should throw my hat in the ring, seeing as I live about 20 minutes from Vernon, CT. I would say it's definitely a town. Vernon is a town. "He" is a CDP, although I thought it was a town until I looked it up on Wikipedia.

Is this puzzle about a Uconn student? A UConn student made the stupid statement in question, yes. Something a Uconn student said, did? See last question People from Vernon? Anything that's in Vernon? Bars? Billiard halls? (There isn't much more in Vernon that I know of. The "Dirty Bird" relevant (a dive bar in Vernon where people play poker and watch sports)? Vernon is not relevant other than that it's a town in Connecticut which is also a person's name.

You said: "Is he H/A/M? Yope-ish to Human and Mail, irrelevant/Yope/FA to Adult A statue? No"

Is "Mail" a typo, or relevant that you did not say "Male"? A typo

Is the Census designated place Storrs? Uconn? As it is not really a town, but rather just a place inside another town, Mansfield? None of these

Connecticut history relevant? Town lines? Huskies? Anything on Uconn campus relevant? None of these except a slight -ish to "On UConn campus"

And now a RECAP:
While on the UConn campus, a student gave a stupid statement implying that he believed a CDP (essentially a town) in Connecticut, was actually a person based on the name, which sounds like it similar to a person's name. So I jokingly said in the puzzle statement "Yeah, he's [he=the CDP] Vernon's son" with Vernon being another town in Connecticut (also not a person). Vernon is not relevant in any way which we have not determined yet.

Does the name of the town sound like a nickname or a fictitious first name? (rather than a real name people would give their children).

Going off the pronunciation thing, I was thinking of Winsted, which sounds a lot like the name Winston, especially if you have a stuffy nose. But that's definitely considerably more than 20 miles away from Vernon.

Does the name of the town sound like a nickname or a fictitious first name? (rather than a real name people would give their children). It could and probably be a nickname, rather than a "real name" but it's not fictitious. And there's still the -ish because of the way you phrased the question.
