Does "grinding" have some relevant slang meaning in the Empire State? :-) (I could ask my dad; he's originally from Long Island) |

Grinding...in the sense of rubbing something against something else, turning it to powder? Grinding grain to make flour? Grinding coffee? Grinding sugar to make powdered sugar (icing sugar in British parlance, I believe) |

Ok, so you were grinding glass...did you vacuum up broken glass accidentally (or on purpose...doesn't sound like a good plan though) and the vacuum ground it up, hence the grinding? |

Are you grinding all the pieces to dust? Or just part of them? Relevant how fine the dust is? Are you hiding evidence? Are you grinding the pieces in order to make them not sharp? To make some sort of decoration? Is the vacuum cleaner relevant beyond being a convenient way to clean up glass dust? Did you also smash the object into pieces? |

Are you grinding all the pieces to dust? Yes. Or just part of them? Relevant how fine the dust is? Not really, just that they become fine. Are you hiding evidence? No. Are you grinding the pieces in order to make them not sharp? Not really but it is a slight part of it. To make some sort of decoration? No. Is the vacuum cleaner relevant beyond being a convenient way to clean up glass dust? Nope, that is all that it is used for. Did you also smash the object into pieces? No. Beware: There is a minor FA about the "object" but I feel as though an explanation would either be confusing, misleading, or would give too much away. |

Are you grinding the pieces in order to dispose of them? Did all of the object go to pieces? If the object was more than glass, did all the glass of the object go to pieces? Was there an accident? Are you doing this at home? Work? Somewhere else? Did the glass object contain something relevant? If so: food? Liquid? Gas? Solid? Something hazardous? Something living? |

It was "yesishly" broken? And it's "yope-ishly" a plate, bowl, or saucer (which one? or were you saying saucer?) Was it not broken, but fractured? Had it been previously broken, but then repaired? Smashed beyond all repair, so you were grinding it up? |

Are you grinding the pieces in order to dispose of them? Yes. Did all of the object go to pieces? Yope but closer to no. If the object was more than glass, did all the glass of the object go to pieces? Yope but closer to no. Was there an accident? Yes. Are you doing this at home? No. Work? Somewhere else? Yes. Did the glass object contain something relevant? Yope but closer to no. If so: food? Liquid? This if anything but let's stray away from this. Gas? Solid? Something hazardous? Something living? It was "yesishly" broken? And it's "yope-ishly" a plate, bowl, or saucer (which one? or were you saying saucer?) A bowl. Was it not broken, but fractured? No. Had it been previously broken, but then repaired? No. Smashed beyond all repair, so you were grinding it up? No. FA: I am not grinding up the bowl. |

If you weren't grinding up the bowl, is another object relevant? Was the accident that the bowl was broken? Or did you break the bowl intentionally (before the grinding)? Did you test the vacuum cleaner? Was it, for some reason, not possible to dispose of the bowl in a trash can or container? |

Do you not want to cut yourself on the broken glass? This is true of ANY broken glass, so... yes but knowing this won't help specifically. Or cut open the vacuum bag? Or the vacuum hose? No to the rest. ***RECAP*** I spent last Saturday grinding glass into a powder and vacuuming it. The glass used to be part of a bowl. I both intentionally "broke" the bowl and accidentally "broke" the part of glass off. I am grinding it to making it easier to clean up and to make it less sharp. What's left to figure out? -How the bowl broke -Why I have to grind it to clean it up |

Did you intend to break a certain part of it? But broke some other part? Arggh, so hard to answer. I broke the bowl off of something else and meant to get just the bowl, but I broke the bowl in the process. I hope this clears up the whole "intentionally-but-not-intentionally" thing. |

*****SPOILER!!!***** Was it an oven for making ceramics? Did the bowl-thing melt? Did part of it melt? Did it get stuck inside the oven? And then you had to try and break it loose? Were the pieces of glass you had to grind down stuck in the oven? Yes to ALL. I had glazed a bowl in my ceramics glass, and I put it in the kiln to fire. Little did I know, you are not supposed to put glaze on the bottom of the bowl or else it fuses with the bottom of the kiln and becomes glass. When I tried to pull my bowl out of the kiln, I noticed that it was stuck and when I yanked it out, the entire bottom cracked off and was stuck to the bottom of the kiln. My teacher got really angry and made me come in on the weekend, grind the glass off of the panel inside (wearing goggles, of course), and vacuuming the glass dust out of the kiln. Thank you SO much for playing; congrats to Galfisk on the solve. Any questions / comments? |
