When a semester is over, most students will either get rid of both their notes and books, or (rarely) keep the book and toss the notes. However, after one of my fall classes was complete, I got rid of the book and kept the notes. Why? |

Can you benefit from having the notes in future? Financial gain involved? Can you get any advantage in your future exams as you still have the notes? Did you do it to prevent loss? Do the notes have a practical value and may be useful in future job? |

Did you save the notes because of: the school-related content? Non-school-related content? Little doodles in the margins? Memories? In order to reuse the paper for something? For use as props in a play, film or similar? To burn later? To give away or sell? For a specific person, other than yourself? |

Is it important how you got rid of the books? Did you sell them? Give them to someone else? Toss them away? Burn them? Did you get rid of them because you didn't need them anymore? Because you didn't want to be reminded of that class (I remember the day I threw my chemistry notes away...)? Because you had borrowed them and had to give them back? Because someone asked you for them? |

No For use as props in a play, film or similar? No To burn later? No To give away or sell? No For a specific person, other than yourself? No Is it important how you got rid of the books? No; as it happened, I sold it back to the campus bookstore. They gave me 2 dollars for it. Cheap buy-back. Did you sell them? Give them to someone else? Toss them away? Burn them? Did you get rid of them because you didn't need them anymore? The book? This. I still have the notes. Okay, so the thing we should focus on are the notes, right? Did you save them because of any non-school related notes on them? Such as great thoughts that have to be preserved? "Talks" on them you had during class? Do you plan to do anything with them later? |

Is the non-school related stuff on them written? drawn (I doubt it's one of them because it's neither notes nor doodles?!)? invisible? Are there other people from that class who keep their notes for the same reason? I just sent you a facebook message, but it's only very slightly puzzle-related. |

Is he a celebrity? Or do you think he will be? Are you saving it because it may be valuable in the future? Because it's a cool thing to have? In order to show it off? |

I don't know, it just seemed to fit as something he could have written that was yesish about himself. Is he a classmate? a guest speaker? a professor? |

Is he a celebrity? Noish Or do you think he will be? Probably not Are you saving it because it may be valuable in the future? Because it's a cool thing to have? In order to show it off? The main reason is that I wouldn't throw away an autograph. Plus, it's kind of cool. Is he a classmate? a guest speaker? He was this - see below a professor? Some background info - he was the author of a book the freshman class had to read; later, he came to Elon and gave a talk on the book. That's relevant-ish. So...why did he sign my notes? |

Did you take notes based on his speech? Take a transcript of his speech? Were you supposed to bring the book to class to be signed? But forgot the book? Was the talk outside of class? Did you have to get proof that you attended? |

Did you take notes based on his speech? This Take a transcript of his speech? Were you supposed to bring the book to class No to be signed? HUGE YES But forgot the book? HUGER YES Was the talk outside of class? Yes Did you have to get proof that you attended? No, but we have enough. **********SPOILER********** This past summer, incoming Elon freshmen had to read Rob Gifford's China Road in preparation for one required class. In mid-September, Gifford gave a talk about the book, and students could bring their books to be signed afterwards. However, I forgot to bring mine, so I had Gifford sign my notes. I took the notes for his talk in the same notebook that I used for that class, so when going through my fall semester supplies for disposal, I kept the notes because they were autographed. But I resold the book to the school bookstore because I no longer needed it. Nice work everyone, especially Noel and Doriana. |
