When Lilaria's supervisor gave her a grueling assignment on short notice, she could have done it but didn't want to. A clever strategy enabled her to avoid it without lying or harming her career. How come? |

Did it get done? Did she get someone else to do it? Would she have worked alone on the task? Is her profession relevant? Grueling: requiring lots of physical effort? Mental effort? Stress? Resources? Relevant how closely she is supervised? Was the task in her job description? |

Is it relevant if she holds a private position (e.g., law office) or a public one (e.g., prosecutor)? Ok, so she's supervised irregularly. But frequency is important. Do we need to find out more about this? If so, is it that she may have a surprise supervision at any time? Has she performed the task in the past? For the same client or same type of case? Is it reasonable to expect she will perform it in the future? Is her reason for not wanting to perform the task related to her physical well-being (e.g., she's tired, she has a headache)? Her career advancement (e.g., it will not look too good on her resumé)? Her personal life (e.g., she has a date)? Her relationship with someone? If so, the client? One of her colleagues? Someone from her personal life? |

By type of law, I meant tax, family, criminal etc. Relevant? Just what I mean by supervise: - online definition: "To have the charge and direction of; superintend, overlook, oversee." - is her supervisor someone she sees or talks to every day? every week? (about work? different things?) someone who's based elsewhere or with her? - does it involve her reporting on her assignments directly to her supervisor? or just that he can check up on her? |

Was the assignment an only relevant thing in the conversation? Were there any other people present in the room than Lilaria and the partner giving assignment? Should the assignment have been recorded somewhere for other people to know? As a result of what Lilaria did, did the partner give the assignment to another person? Or did Lilaria give the assignment to another person? Was the assignment given to another person at all? |

When Liliaria answered, he gave her a very tedious & time-consuming assignment that would have necessitated her staying up all night. She asked, "Do you know who this is?" "No," said the partner. "Good," said Liliaria, & hung up. This is a true story. In reply to the suggestion that the solution is "too obvious," my wounded pride prompts me to reply,"If it's so obvious, how come it wasn't solved sooner?" as well as, of course, "See my new puzzle at the bottom of the page." |

Nice puzzle! I didn't mean that the solution was too obvious, but that saying "Do you know who I am?" would be kind of suspicious and obvious - no offense! (: But since it worked out, thumbs up for Lilaria. This reminds me of the following joke: 100 students are taking an exam. After an hour, the professor tells them to put down their pens and hand in their papers. But one students just continues writing for the next 30 minutes. He then gets up, and the professor says like "You should have handed in the exam half an hour ago, I'll give you an F!", and the students answers: "Do you know who I am?" The professor shakes his head, and the student lifts up the pile somewhere and puts his exam in there (; |
