Or something rather specific? It's a special kind of a common device Is it (approximately) the size of a: phone? toaster? About this, but somewhat bigger, AFAIR vacuum cleaner? Is it plugged in? Or battery powered? This Relevant? Not for this puzzle, but it might help you figure out what it was |

Just to avoid possible misunderstandings: is the item one usually used in the bedroom? Yes bathroom? I'd say this would be unusual study? Yes living room? Yes garden? No all over? The device was in the kitchen all the time while I lived there (and I think it's still there), but it could be used in any of the rooms mentioned above. |

Is it like one of those Goofy (from Disney) watches, No where the numbers are reversed (so 3 is where 9 normally is and vice-versa)? But still YES /*************** SPOILER ***************/ At some point, while I was a student, me and three friends of mine shared an apartment and one of the first things I did there during the furnishing was putting a backwards clock into the kitchen (the only room we all shared). When reading a backwards clock, it's not sufficient to look at the hands only, since that can lead to awfully wrong results, but you also have to focus on the clock face. One of my roommates had greater problems with that, especially in the mornings when she was still tired and didn't think about the peculiarity of the clock. Don't paying enough attention to the clock face, she, especially at the beginning, more than once misread the clock in a way that she thought that it was somewhat earlier than it really was and got to school late. |
