I'll start.

Is she human? An adult?

Is there something on her face? Blood? Food?
Is she injured? Does she think she's injured?

Is she surprised? Angry? Frustrated? Embarrassed? Shocked? Terrified? Sad? In mourning?

Are there others involved or nearby?

Is there a special reason why one would like to see her face, or should see it?

can't find the relevant bit of the answers to Dukhsan's questions, sorry

could the question in the title have read "you should have seen the expression on her face"? or was there s omething intrinsically noteworthy about her face?

was she surprised in a good way? like a surprise birthday party? or a bad way? like a tarantula in her lunchbox? or another way altogether?

was she surprised and confused?

A HINT or maybe a BLOOOOPER: The subject of the book itself is common and usual. The unusual thing is rather the "type" of book in combination with what I said.

So it was a kids book but it was meant to be a present for an adult, right? Did you tell the cashier to write a card (or add a card you've written) that contained a hint at the person being an adult? Like "congratulations to your graduation"? Or did you want the cashier to add something else that wasn't appropiate for children? Such as brandy-filled chocolates?

Do we have to figure out the book title or the occasion for the present?

Just guessing, the person you bought the book for had just become a (kindergarten) teacher and you bought them a book with nursery rhymes or games for young children?

So it was a kids book yes but it was meant to be a present for an adult, right? no - it was a kid's book and it was meant as a present for a kid, but... Did you tell the cashier to write a card (or add a card you've written) that contained a hint at the person being an adult? no, and a slight FA Like "congratulations to your graduation"? so, no Or did you want the cashier to add something else that wasn't appropiate for children? no, and the same FA Such as brandy-filled chocolates? \so, no}

Do we have to figure out the book title or the occasion for the present? no, the subject of the book might be helpful, but it's not necessary to figure it out

Just guessing, the person you bought the book for had just become a (kindergarten) teacher and you bought them a book with nursery rhymes or games for young children? good guess (:, but no, and the same underlying FA

Was the kid it a gift for a different age than the book was intended for? For example, was he/she a high school student, but it was a kids book?

Were they a different sex than would typically want that book? Were they actually the typical sex for the book, but had a name that was typical of the opposite sex?

Was it a young kids book (pictures, alphabets, rhyming, etc.)? A young adult book?

HINT: Having the book wrapped as a present is relevant, but...
And remember that she asked me a question.

Was the book aimed at a particular group or type of child?

Was it a book that would seem odd to give as a gift?
Such as one helping a child deal with death?

Was it fiction?
Non-fiction?
Is this relevant?

Did she ask:
If you wanted it wrapped?
About who you were buying it for?
How old your child was? (Why do total strangers ask questions like this? But they do...)

Was the book aimed at a particular group or type of child? yope

Was it a book that would seem odd to give as a gift? no
Such as one helping a child deal with death? no

Was it fiction? this
Non-fiction?
Is this relevant? not really, could have worked with a non-fiction kids' book about the same subject too

Did she ask:
If you wanted it wrapped? this
About who you were buying it for?
How old your child was? (Why do total strangers ask questions like this? But they do...) no to these

And now the last thing to find out is my answer, and then you can put the pieces together.

Did you want her to gift-wrap the book?

If not, did you - more or less directly - say that you could do it better?
Or that you didn't like their paper or whatever else they used?
Or that you didn't want the presentee to see where you bought the book (I haven't had anything gift-wrapped in forever, but I believe that some stores put a sticker with their logo and stuff on the wrapped-up present)?
Or that it wasn't necessary because the presentee would shred the paper to pieces anyway?
Or that you were in a hurry (or there was a long line of costumers behind you) and having the present packed would be too time-consuming?
Or that you still had to do something to the book before it could be wrapped up?

If you wanted her to gift-wrap it, did you make any requests as to how the present should be packed? And she considered it too elaborate?
Or, if you asked for a certain kind of paper, was the paper you wanted unusual for the occasion? Like Christmas paper in spring?

Out of left field, but was your answer something like...

"It is the wrapping?"
"It is wrapped?"

Did you tell something usual, which she didn't understand at first?
Or did you tell something what could be understood two different ways?
Did you misunderstood or misheard the question?
Did she misunderstood or misheard the answer?

"It is wrapped?" no to both

was it the title of the book which mattered or the subject matter? the subject

was it a book on origami? no seriously, was it a book about a rapper? no to these

Did you tell something usual yope, and here's a small HINT: I gave a normal answer, but it seemed odd in combination with the book, which she didn't understand at first? no
Or did you tell something what could be understood two different ways? no
Did you misunderstood or misheard the question? no
Did she misunderstood or misheard the answer? no

Okay, so the dialogue was
cashier: "Do you want it wrapped as a present?"
Doriana: "No, thanks, ___________"

Did you say "I want to read it first"? almost, but I think it's close enough for the long-awaited

********SPOILER********
My nephew is turning 8 tomorrow and I got him a book with short stories about a group of soccer playing friends.
After I had paid, the cashier asked me if I wanted her to wrap it as a present. Witty me said "No, thanks, it's for me". The poor cashier was surprised and terribly confused, and "you should have seen her face" - it was hilarious (:

Nice work, everyone!

I just realised I forgot to answer a bunch of questions - Sorry! Somehow, I couldn't post my answers when I first tried it, and then I accidentally deleted the other questions and answers ):

And by the way, the book is wrapped, the card is written... and now I hope my nephew will like it cause he's not much of a reader. But an aunt's task is to give presents of educational value, lol.
