This is my first puzzle so criticism is welcome. Why can't the one-legged man read? |

The one-legged man=HAM? Was he born one-legged? Did he lose it later? Is he blind? Can he read signs? Books? Computer displays? |

Did he lose his sight at the same time he lost his second leg? earlier? later? Was either loss (or both losses) due to an accidental injury? by an assault by another person? Or am I making a FA, and he was born blind? but could somehow use his legs to read anyway? |

Did he lose his sight at the same time he lost his second leg? No earlier? later? Irrelevant; let's say he lost his sight first. Was either loss (or both losses) due to an accidental injury? No by an assault by another person? No Or am I making a FA, (What's that, faulty assumption??) and he was born blind? He was not born blind. but could somehow use his legs to read anyway? He never used his leg[s] to read. |

Is braille relevant? Yes, it's relevant in that he can't read it. Some other way of blind people reading? No, I don't know of any other way... |

Did he lose his hands as well? Or were his hands otherwise harmed in a way that made them unable to feel the braille? If so, are they ...burnt? ...paralyzed? ...numb? |

Relevant when his hands went numb? If so, did it happen ...before he lost his sight? ...at about the time when he lost his sight? ...between losing his sight and losing his leg? ...at about the time when he lost his leg? ...after he lost his leg? Has he had an illness? If so, were his impairments (or either of them) caused by the illness? |

Yay, Potato got it! ******SPOILER******* The man has Type 1 diabetes; this caused him to lose his sight (retinopathy) and the feeling in his fingers (neuropathy), rendering him unable to read even in Braille. He lost the leg due to diabetes (ulcers) as well. The moral of the story is, Type 1 diabetes totally sucks. Too easy? :-) |

Welcome and sorry I missed this one! I don't think it was too easy. Nice bit of lateral thought required to get that his blindness and one-legged-ness were connected. Sometimes puzzles go fast around here not because they are too easy, but because the members here are tenacious and quite clever! |

I agree with Vesica . I think that this was a very neat little puzzle and I'm surprised by how quickly this went. Don't get to down about puzzles getting solved quickly on this forum . Some of my ones that I thought were most fiendish were solved in jig time whilest others which I thought would be quickies took ages to solve. A big welcome to the forum. You'll like it here. |

Aw, and here I was sure it would be leprosy. Dbw, it looks as though you and I registered within the same day or so. Nice to meet you! And this was a really good problem, so I'm sure everyone will be happy to welcome you. I'm tempted to throw a few problems out there, myself, but I'm going to keep reading for a week or so before I find the courage. Or maybe the cussedness. |
