HPV is one of the main causes of cervical cancer so that the vaccination is recommended for teenage girls and young women. In Germany, it's currently covered by health insurance for girls aged 12 to 17. Sarah is 16 years old, so she won't have to pay for the vaccination. Her sister Lisa is 18 years old, and since her parents are against vaccinations they make her daughter pay for it. Jacob, being a boy, does not have to worry about getting the vaccination at all. This went faster than expected - great work, folks! (: | ||

Um, not to be a pain, but both HPV vaccines have been approved for use in boys as well as girls since 2009. While complications from HPV are less common in boys, the vaccine does protect boys against genital warts, penile cancer, and anal cancer by preventing lesions caused by HPV in males. | ||

Vesica - that's why I said "yope" to "So is this something that men (or most men) never need?". In Germany, it's still considered a girls' vaccination and it's usually administered by gynaecologists. There are no mandatory vaccines in Germany, but we do have strong recommendations - the HPV vaccine is currently recommend for girls only. | ||
