He was killed. A lot of them thought that it was the right thing to do. She and a minority of them felt that it was wrong. He disagreed. That might be too easy, so early $poilers please email |

Rbruma, this looks clever - and I'm sure that you're clever. I just want to make sure that you're not diabolical. You appear to give us 3 important ones: he, she, and them. Will you give us names, please, for each person or group of persons, so that we'll know how many people we need to consider? Frex: Trotsky was killed. A lot of Stalin followers thought that it was right... Mrs. Trotsky felt ... Mrs. Trotsky's lover disagreed... I'm not normally this sneaky, but I need to ask. Because we love you. And we don't want to go hunting you down. Crazily, perhaps, the first thing I thought of was General Woundwort in Watership Down. And the second thing I thought of was Spike the vampire in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But I'm going to wait for you to answer Doriana. Okay, yawning my head off, nearly 3:30 in the morning here in Miami. Cheers, all. |

Honestly, I haven't a clue - apart from Socrates carried out his own death sentence, thereby executing himself. but maybe many people were executed that way, so was it Socrates? |

was she his wife? Indeed daughter? Socrates had only 3 sons -- known by history -- so no Enough for the ******* SPOILER ******* Xanthippe, the wife of Socrates, is probably as famous as her husband. She was mentioned from Aristotle, through Shakespeare to Edgar Allan Poe. This particular puzzle came out from a story I recalled. When Socrates -- it is told -- was awaiting his death sentence to be put into practice, an angry Xanthippe came in and started to cry, saying: "My dear Socrates, you are unjustly killed!" Socrates answered: "And you would have preferred for me to be JUSTLY killed?" And the rest is history :-) The title was a hint to the famous Socrates irony. Thanks to all who participated.
