No. Is the cylinder an object one would ordinarily expect to find resting on a tablecloth? IIRC, no, though I suppose it could have been a container of some sort. such as a mug or a salt shaker? Bonnie Prince Charlie, 1745 And All That? This. Spoiler: When I visited Scotland last year, I found a very interesting "anamorphosis" in a museum. Since it was illegal to have a picture of Bonnie Prince Charlie, one way to get around the prohibition was to have such a painting, which looked like a simple stain on the tablecloth to any searchers. After supper, the host would bring out a metal cylinder which would reflect his picture, and the guests would quietly drink to the "Prince over the water." | ||
