Could you clarify on the use of Googlepedia?

Does it commemorate a specific historic event? A more general historic thing (like honoring War Veterans)?

Could you clarify on the use of Googlepedia? Googlepedia is allowed, but I think you'll be able to determine the holiday without it. Discovering the scrund should be relatively easy even without googlepedia.

I may or may not have (which means "I did") peeked at Wikipedia's list of holidays for Oct. 3 before you answered on Googlepedia, so I'll wait until the holiday is guessed before continuing.

The House of Wettin is a dynasty of German counts, dukes, prince-electors (Kurfürsten) and kings that once ruled the area of today's German states of Saxony, the Saxon part of Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia for more than 800 years. Agnates of the House of Wettin have, at various times, ascended the thrones of Great Britain, Portugal, Bulgaria, Poland, Saxony, and Belgium; of these, only the British and Belgian lines retain their thrones today.

In other words, the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, from which comes the House of Windsor, via Prince Albert, although it took a couple generations for the name to change, is part of the House of Wettin, agnatically speaking. Is this at all relevant?

Rephrasing: Did you think the only border crossing between DDR and BRD was possible at the Berlin Wall?

I used to have this scrund before I realized that the Wall only divided Berlin, which was in the middle of the DDR so to speak, while the borders between the two were far larger

no

I used to have this scrund before I realized that the Wall only divided Berlin, which was in the middle of the DDR so to speak, while the borders between the two were far larger well, that was my scrund!

********SPOILER********
Until 6th grade, I thought that the Berlin Wall was the only border between East and West Germany, i.e. that it went all the way through Germany.
But then I learned that it only divided Berlin, which was, as Rbruma stated, in the middle of the GDR.
Here's a little map that shows you the German/German border and the location of Berlin.

Nice work, and thumbs up for Rbruma! Thanks for playing, guys.

Please have a look at my two other puzzles, Forest Fires and Monotonous, as well as my new puzzle that I'll post now (:

At least you weren't descrunded by a laughing history teacher + class!

It's ok to have this scrund as a non-German, but apparently every 11-year-old German child is supposed to know it.

Which reminds me of a group of first graders and the following dialogue that I overheard:
Child #1: "There used to be a biiiig wall in Germany!!"
Child #2: "Oh yeah, and I know what it was called - The Great Wall of China!" :D

Nice puzzle Doriana. It reminded me of those (embarassing/never-to-be-repeated-again) de-scrunding situations which marked me as a kid, of which the Wall of Berlin was one of a kind :-)

*de-scrunded kitteh*

Iz very naiz puzzel doriana kitteh! hehe, your last comment reminds me of the story Fiondil told me of when he was teaching ESL in China to a class of 13 year old boys. One of the lessons that day was: "I'm not going to have cereal for breakfast. I'm going to have muffins." The boys cracked up and took half an hour to calm down, stop laughing and tell him what was so funny.

Muffin sounds like "ma fen" to Chinese ears. "Ma" meaning "horse", and "fen"...well, I'll let doriana kitteh fill in the blank. =P
