Did a Pre-Teen Non-Native misunderstand "Kitteh"?
Did they think it meant a different word?

Neologism or scrund? It's more on the scrund-ish side, but it's not really a scrund.

There is an FA in there: he lives in Germany and is a native speaker of German but the language he heard was English, which he can speak only rudimentarily. Explore.

*lolz at self* Um. Sorry. I wasn't sure if you were talking about heraldic lions. Obviously you don't know what I'm talking about, so...

"Gules three lions passant guardant in pale Or armed and langued Azure" = Three gold lions walking on a red background, with blue claws and tongues, aka the arms of England, seen quartered on the arms of the UK with Scotland and Ireland. Speaking of Scotland:

"Or, a lion rampant Gules armed and langued Azure within a double tressure flory counter-flory of the second" = A red lion rearing up, with blue claws and tongue, on a gold background within a red border. Or something like that. Anyway the first one was England, the second one was Scotland.

Now, that's interesting. I'm not familiar with heraldics at all and I've never heard those terms before. And, well, yeah, I wasn't talking about heraldic lions indeed.

Yeah =) Gules = red, Or = gold, Azure = blue. For some reason, Argent (which isn't on those two) means both silver and white. Anyway the background always comes first, then what you're putting on it, then what color it is, then the details...so on and so forth. I'm not that great at heraldry, but I like reading the descriptions, and that's what I've picked up from it. My favorite is when something is to be shown "proper", that means it's the same colors as it is in real life. =)

Balin

Well, to be honest, I haven't really planned where to stop this puzzle. By figuring out that I mistook "lying" for "lion", you now have the most vital part of this puzzle and letting you guess the exact line in question might be a bit too much. However, I've decided to let you guess for a couple of days and if you're obviously stuck, I'm going to spoyle it.

The line is used in a number of songs, the one I'm thinking of actually being quite famous. The misunderstood line caused a "WTF" feeling to me and depending on its interpretion, I think it can be both funny and disturbing.

***** SPOILER ******

When I was a child, I would always mistake the line "When I'm lying in by bed" from the Robbie Williams song "Angels" as "When I'm lion in by bed" - which didn't make any sense to me at all, but I still would have sworn to high heaven that he was singing about him being a lion, which, after all, could have been a metaphor for God-knows-what xD I remembered this when listening to the song "Smile in your Sleep" by Silverstein which has the same line.

That's pretty funny, but I'm sure we've all made similar mistakes, even native English-speakers.
