I have a recurring dream in which I suffer from foltod. This makes me somewhat reluctant to do something while awake, even though I know that's foolish.

Type of transport relevant? If so: driving your car? taking the bus/tram/train/plane? Other kind of public transport?

foltod - are the first two letters an acronym of "fear of"?

Do you have the fear when driving?
When you are only a passenger?
Do you avoid driving altogehter?

Are other drivers relevant?
If so, is it their driving style?
The kind of vehicles they use?
The amount of vehicles around you?

Fear of losing your way relevant?
Fear of running out of fuel relevant?
Fear of car defect relevant?

Do you have the fear when driving? More like the dream triggers the fear.
When you are only a passenger? not at all
Do you avoid driving altogehter? Whenever I can, and especially long distances.

Are other drivers relevant? only remotely. Don't dwell on this.
If so, is it their driving style?
The kind of vehicles they use?
The amount of vehicles around you?

Fear of losing your way relevant?
Fear of running out of fuel relevant? no to both.
Fear of car defect relevant? possibly

so the something you're reluctant to do (in the puzzle statement) is to drive a car where not necessary? any more to it than that?

The foltod in the dream, is it a fear of something that could only happen whilst driving a car? i.e. Could you have the same fear whilst driving a train? piloting an aeroplane?

Are passengers relevant? does the fear relate to being involved in a road traffic accident?

so the something you're reluctant to do (in the puzzle statement) is to drive a car where not necessary? This is something I am reluctant to do IRL (in real life) mostly *because* of the dream. any more to it than that? what happens in the dream that makes me reluctant to drive after I wake up.

The foltod in the dream, is it a fear of something that could only happen whilst driving a car? i.e. Could you have the same fear whilst driving a train? piloting an aeroplane? I never thought about this, but I suppose it could. I've never driven a train or piloted an airplane, tho, even in a dream, so n.r.

Are passengers relevant? If there are passengers, I'm not aware of them after waking, so n.r. does the fear relate to being involved in a road traffic accident? Yes, in the dream I'mm about to be involved in one. In real life, onlly remotely relevant.

Is it a fear that you need to get to some place and the car wouldn't start? No.

Perhaps a good place for a RECAP:
I have a recurring dream in which I am driving a car, and am unable to do something to avoid an accident. It is something that could NOT happen in real life. If I ever am involved in a serious accident, it will not be because of this. It is a physical thing, in the dream, not IRL.
And the "f" does not stand for fear, although I am fearful in the dream.

are you learning to drive in the dream, or driving when you shouldn't? are you driving an unusual vehicle? In a strange place?

Would the accident be with a collision with a car? pedestrian? building or other structure? other type of road vehicle? A vehicle that does not travel on roads?

Would the accident be with a collision with a car?most likely pedestrian? building or other structure? could be either other type of road vehicle? A vehicle that does not travel on roads? probably not, but I never really remember after I wake up, so n.r.

Is it relevant how you get to the accident? For example: the brakes are not working anymore? The wheel is stuck? You fell asleep? Are you trying to avoid an animal on the road? Is the condition of the road relevant?

is foltod related to losing control of the car in some way? are you directly responsible for the impending RTA in the dream? And each time you wake up just before the impact. anything to do with the pedals getting stuck? The gears? Do you take your eyes off the road? Are you distracted?

Recap & possible hints:
In my dream, I am driving and need to apply the brakes - reason is irr. The fault is not with the brakes, or in any way with the car - it's me. I do not panic, or at least not till I realize that I can't use the brake, and then I wake up. The feeling of panic is caused by something physical, *in the dream,* which gets stuck. The 'f' does not stand for 'fear.'

I first started havving this dream when we owned a VW. This could be somewhat relevant.

I've googled VW and going with my initial assumption you mean you owned a Volkswagen - although this doesn't seem to make any sense, i.e. that the make of car would make a difference... is it a US term for something?

your foot gets stuck? behind the pedals?

I've googled VW and going with my initial assumption you mean you owned a Volkswagen - although this doesn't seem to make any sense, i.e. that the make of car would make a difference... is it a US term for something? No, and it probably didn't make any difference, just that it seemmed to, to my unconscious mind.

your foot gets stuck? behind the pedals? YES.
Well, not really behind, but....

**********SPOILER*************
'Foltod' stands for Feet Over-Large To Drive. In the nightmare, my feet have grown so large that they are jammed, and I can't move them to put on the brake. Then, thankfully, I wake up, but find it difficult to go back to sleep.
I think this is triggered by the fact that I am made up of spare parts. I'm 5'7" but have the legs - and feet! - of someone at least 5'10", with the upper body and arms of a person about 5'4" or less. If I adjust the driver's seat to fit my lower half, I have difficulty reaching the steering wheel; if I set it so my upper half is comfortable, my legs feel cramped. Either way adds to my fatigue, which makes me dream, which makes me wake up, which makes me more fatigued, which triggers...etc, etc.

It was a long road, but we got there in the end! Off to a great start, Andy.
