Following the recent dream theme, here's a particularly weird one that's happened to me, and I'm curious if anyone else on here has experienced this. When I was younger, I used to sometimes dream that someone was trying to utsep me. This created a paradox, which meant the person was never successful, and in fact sometimes caused the opposite of the intended result. What am I talking about? |

The only paradoxes I can think about like that are when someone goes back in time and kills their grandparent/parent/younger self...relevant? |

Was the person never successful in utsepping you in your dream? Or when you're awake? If the latter is the case, did the person try to utsep you when you were younger? Or did they try to do it now that you're older? Relevant how old you were then? Relevant how old you are now? Is the other person HAM? Relevant? Does utsep involve ...doing physical harm on you? ...making you angry? ...making you happy? ...making you laugh? ...telling you a story? ...taking something from you? ...surprising you? ...competing with you? |

The only paradoxes I can think about like that are when someone goes back in time and kills their grandparent/parent/younger self...relevant?Not really OTRT, and remember this is only a paradox within a dream Was the person never successful in utsepping you in your dream? I don't think it was ever successful. Or when you're awake?Yesish. And possible FA in these first two questions. If the latter is the case, did the person try to utsep you when you were younger?Yes, and was successful, but still maybe FA. Or did they try to do it now that you're older?I have been utsepped again since then, but irr. Relevant how old you were then? Relevant how old you are now?No to both. Is the other person HAM?FA Relevant? If I understand what you meant, then it's irr. Does utsep involve ...doing physical harm on you?Hopefully not! ...making you angry? ...making you happy? ...making you laugh?Umm... No. But keep in mind you asked this haha. ...telling you a story? ...taking something from you? ...surprising you? ...competing with you?All others are NO |

So, there's an FA about the person, right? Is there no particular person involved? Did you only think that there was a person? Were there several persons? Animals? |

Huh, I could have sworn I answered these questions earlier! So, there's an FA about the person, right?Yesish. Is there no particular person involved?Yes. Did you only think that there was a person? No, at least one person (besides me) was always involved, in real life or dreams. Were there several persons?Yesish. The person involved each time was different, and the people in the dreams were not necessarily "modeled" after any people in real life. Animals? No, no animals involved. |

Does utsep involve: making you do something? Making you feel something? Making you say something? Saying something to you? Doing something to you? Taking something from you? Going somewhere? |

To understand better: you said that there's no particular person involved, however that at least one person was always involved. Does that mean he/she it's a random person? Someone you see on the street? In a different public place? The taxi driver? |

To understand better: you said that there's no particular person involved, however that at least one person was always involved. Does that mean he/she it's a random person? No, there are only very few types of people who would ever utsep someone. Someone you see on the street?NO! In a different public place?Depends on what you mean by "public". Utsepping would NOT occur, e,g, on a street corner or on the bus. The taxi driver?NO, a taxi driver would not have reason to utsep someone. |

Long shot in the dark: were they (in your dreams) try to put you asleep for the surgery, and they didn't manage to do that? Because somewhat the anesthetic did not work for that? |

Long shot in the dark: were they (in your dreams) try to put you asleep for the surgery, and they didn't manage to do that? Because somewhat the anesthetic did not work for that?Exactly! You and Sundowner both nailed it! ******************SPOILER******************************** An occasionally recurring dream I had in my childhood was about needing to go in for surgery, and having to be put under general anesthesia. However, when I was in the operating room and the doctor tried putting a mask on me, or whatever they would do, it didn't work. If any of you have had general anesthesia, which I've really only had once (the other time, when pulling my wisdom teeth, was really strong sedation), you know that the time you are out is literally "missing", i.e. there is no recall of anything from the moment you lose consciousness to the moment you wake up. Thus, for it to work in a dream means that you would stop dreaming, hence the paradox. Furthermore, the fear of having to undergo an operation when the anesthetic wasn't working would often be enough to wake me up from the dream. By the way, my neologistic verb for inducing general anesthesia comes from the alternating letters of "pUt To SlEeP". |

Nice puzzle, thanks. I also had only once been on general anesthesia, and I remember the terror of going in there and fearing that it wouldn't work. Well, they asked me to count to ten... and I remember counting 1, 2, 3 ... then it was a blackout and I woke up three hours later :-) So apparently it did work! :-) |
