I find that in general, when I interact with a certain category of people, they treat me far better when I initiate contact through written means such as email than when I call them on the phone. Who is this group and why would they do that? |

Are you inadvertently revealing something about yourself when you speak on the phone, that you don't reveal when you email? If so, is this some trait that is special only for you? For a small group of people? A large group? A considerable percentage of the Earth's population? |

Via email from Verdant.... Your name is listed as Gregory Koch, right? Yes Koch is a name many differ on pronounciation. Yes, this is relevant The correct German pronounciation, often avoided by prudents, is "kɔx" ("Kok.") Which sounds like another word for a rooster, or something roosters have (as opposed to hens...) This is not how I pronounce my name, nor is this specific pronunciation relevant. I pronounce my name "Kotch" (rhymes with "splotch" and this is somewhat relevant. There is also another relevant pronunciation. While it is not relevant how I pronounce my last name, it is relevant that I don't pronounce it that way. |

is it relevant that we call you Mr. Coke on occasion? =) Not specifically, no... But the "Coke" pronunciation is indeed relevant. Koch/Coke Ln. here in San Jose relevant? I don't believe so.... Coke-it-is? (not that I even remember what that was about, I just remember it sounds funny) It was about someone who changed his name to "Coke-it-is" because he was mad that people pronounced his name "Kotch" and then Coca-Cola sued him. And no, it's not relevant Coca-Cola? Atlanta? No |

Would the people you find easier to interact with in written form immediately understand your surname as of German origin? do these people have a German background? and would recognize you as one of "them"? Relevant that, if you introduce yourself in writing, easily get around the question of how to pronounce your name? Are you often asked how to spell your name (when you say it on the phone)? Would the relevant people find it strange to pronounce your name the way you do? |

See below do these people have a German background? and would recognize you as one of "them"? No Relevant that, if you introduce yourself in writing, easily get around the question of how to pronounce your name? Do you mean I don't have to pronounce my name? Then yes. Are you often asked how to spell your name (when you say it on the phone)? Yes, but irr Would the relevant people find it strange to pronounce your name the way you do? Not quite, see below Koch brothers relevant? YES YES YES!!!!! This should also make another puzzle of mine slightly easier now. And it will be significantly easier when you figure out how they are relevant. |

Your name is pronounced differently, but spelled the same. When in writing, do they treat you better because they assume you're related, but when on the phone, they know you're someone else because of the different pronunciation? |

Ok.... You've actually got this basically, and I'd like to post a new puzzle, so ****SPOILER**** I am a Libertarian, as are (at least some) of the Koch Brothers. When I email fellow Libertarian Party members/supporters, they sometimes see "Oh, he's a Koch he must have money, so let's be nice to him so he'll donate". When I call and pronounce my last name they know I'm not. Good job to everyone, especially Solitaire. Check out my new puzzle. |
