Are the objects shaped like people?Yes! Dolls? Figurines? Statues? Mannequins? Yope, yes or yessish to all (!), but statues is closest.
are the objects shaped like animals? Some could be, but n.r. to the puzzle.

Easter Island heads? (I know they have a proper name but I can't think of it. All I can remember is the one from the Night at the Museum movie who liked gum. =D Now, if it had been an Easter Island kitteh...)

The heads of waxwork figures have to be made 1-2% larger than life size, to allow for melting, even at room temperature.

AFAIK, it is made of wax too, but is less exposed (covered by clothing in human images) and also larger, so a little shrinkage is not noticed.
