A man committed suicide and tried to make it look like murder. However, he failed to realize something obvious, and the police closed the case as a suicide. What happened? |

Did he frame someone specific? Yes did he want it not to look like suicide for insurance purposes? No, see above did he shoot himself? drown himself? knife himself? poison himself? gas himself? throw himself in front of a train/car? None of these Slight BLOOPER in the puzzle statement. I said that "he failed to realize something obvious." Actually, he failed to realize two things; one obvious that anyone should know, and one specific to the puzzle scenario. |

No so the police knew she couldn't have done it because she had an alibi? Yes but was there another reason why they knew it wasn't murder? Yope -- the man used the flat iron for a reason in his attempted frame-up, but he forgot something obvious that foiled the frame-up. HINT: the method of suicide is relevant. did he sit in the bath and drop the iron in? Yes did he need to ue an extension cable? Irrel |

Did he fail to plug the iron in? No RECAP: A man committed suicide by dropping his wife's flat iron into the bathtub while he was in it. He was trying to frame his wife, but he failed to realize two things. The first was that his wife had an alibi. The second... HINT: All the information you need is in this recap. ANOTHER HINT: Along with the man's body and the flat iron, a washcloth was found in the tub. |

Had she not used the iron before? No, she had. I think you have enough that I can walk you through the man's reasoning. His wife frequently used her flat iron, so her fingerprints would be all over it. By holding it with a washcloth as he dropped it into the tub, he would ensure not getting his own prints on it. But why would her prints NOT be on it when the body was discovered? |

Did the water wash them off? Yep! **********SPOILER********** A man committed suicide by dropping his wife's flat iron into the tub while he sat in it. He tried to frame his wife by the use of the murder weapon, since he knew her fingerprints were all over it. However, he failed to realize that the water in the tub would wash away all prints from the iron, and since his wife had an alibi (she was carpooling to work), the police determined correctly that it was a suicide. Nice work everyone. New puzzle in a bit. |
