Shane was only able to defeat Kyle because he (Shane) was injured. How? |

It was a who-can-get-hurt first contest? Or maybe they both liked the same girl but she went out with Shane because she felt sorry for him after his injury? Or maybe Kyle said to Shane, "I bet I taste better to sharks than you do!" and Shane said, "uh-uh!" and Kyle said, "Uh-Huh!!!" and so they both dived into the shark infested water, but the shark ate Shane because he hit his head during the dive and was bleeding profusely? Nature of the injury relevant? Defeat in a contest? a battle? |

Shane: HAM? Kyle: HAM? True story? FYOI? FSEI? Shane was against Kyle in some way, right? Was anyone else on Shane's side? On Kyle's? My vote goes to the shark-eating contest. It's just stupid, ridiculous, and believable enough to be a lateral puzzle. |

No, but I'll have to remember that one. Nature of the injury relevant? Yes Defeat in a contest? a battle? Neither Shane: HAM? Kyle: HAM? Yes to both True story? FYOI? This FSEI? Shane was against Kyle in some way, right? Yes Was anyone else on Shane's side? On Kyle's? Hmmm... Shane and Kyle were the only ones there My vote goes to the shark-eating contest. It's just stupid, ridiculous, and believable enough to be a lateral puzzle. That is surely so, but alas, it's not this one. |

This reminds me of a scenario in a movie from years ago called 'Three O'Clock High.' Doubtful to be the same because there were more than two people involved but similar in description. Were Shane and Kyle running against each other as candidates? Were people voting for one of them? Was Shane's injury related to his head? Arms? Legs? Spine? Thymus? Something else? |

Was anyone watching Shane and Kyle? On TV, perhaps? Y'know, I was hoping my Hunger Games rulebreaker would get my obsession with it out...of...my...head, but sadly, this isn't the case. |

That series isn't one of mine, but it's not a bad one. (Now Twilight, on the other hand...) were they playing a game? a sport? were they fighting? was it a duel? No to all |

HINT: Perhaps "defeat" wasn't the best word for me to use in the puzzle statement. "Stop" would be better. |

Did Shane use the crutch to prevent Kyle from doing something? From touching something? From contacting someone? Did he touch Kyle with the crutch? Did he touch an object with the crutch? Is a metal crutch better than a wooden one because it is heavier? Hurts more when you are hit with it? Conducts electricity? Conducts heat? Makes a particular noise in a particular circumstance? |

Thanks! I was here years and years ago in a different incarnation. Very nice to be back! Did Shane touch the object with the crutch to prevent Kyle from using it? From seeing it? Did he move the thing with the crutch? Did he break it? Prevent it from operating? Was anyone else involved? Any animals? Is the other quality of a metal crutch the fact that it does more damage when you hit things with it? That it is denser? Impossible to cut through? Saw through? Break in some other way? |

Was Kyle looking for Shane? No... Was he looking for money? Yes... Was he a thief? Yes! Did Shane correctly surmise he was up to no good and barricade him in the room while he limped off to call the police? YES!!! **********SPOILER********** Kyle was in the middle of robbing Shane's house when Shane came up. Although Kyle was behind double doors, Shane heard rustling and assumed that someone was up to no good. Fortunately for Shane, he had recently broken his leg and was on crutches, so he used one to bar the doors and hurried off to call the police. Kyle was trapped until he was arrested. Nice solve Jane. New puzzle on the way. |
