You are wearing a t-shirt, jeans, and a jacket tied around your waist. In your pockets is a wad of lint, a really old stick of gum, and a small, square piece of paper. The room has white walls, ceiling, and floor. On the floor is a magic kit, a homework sheet with 0/10, some brown glob, a stereo, a small glass of water, a telescope, a portrait of a man, a globe, a rock, a calendar, and a plastic ear. Also on the floor is the words (the blanks indicate a large, empty box on that area): It was the ____ the ____ went ____, I screamed till my ____ was ____, And _____ through the ____ as everything, Came crashing _____. There is also a small door. A person stands in front of the door. |

What colo(u)r are the t-shirt, jeans and jacket? Is the small square of paper folded up? If so, unfold it if you can. Does it have anything written on it? If so, read it. Examine the magic kit more closely. What does it have in it? What sort of homework is it? Is the 0/10 the grade? (Aww, failing homework is never nice =( ) Please examine the brown glob. Is there a way to tell what it is made of? Is there anything remarkable about the stereo? Is the water safe to drink? Should you drink it? Are there any windows in the room? Is there any way to look out through the telescope? Examine the telescope closely. What does it appear to be made of? How large is it? Does it stand on a tripod or can you hold it in your hands? Is the portrait of the man a nondescript man or anyone in particular? Is he famous? a real person? a mythological person? is the portrait painted? a photograph? some other medium? a globe...of the world? or just as in a round ball, like a sphere? how big is it? how big is the rock? what sort of minerals is it made of, do you know? what color is it? approximate shape? what year does the calendar display? month? is it a weekly calendar? one of those daily desk calendars? is a particular date indicated? a...plastic ear. What. LOL, now I'm seriously fascinated. A human ear? Animal? An ear of corn? I'll get back to the blanked out words in a second... How big is the door? can you tell if you could pass through the door if the person wasn't there? is the person male? female? human? adult? what does the person look like? Ask the person, "Can you tell me how to get out of here?" and "Is the door locked?" |

the ear of corn would be so much more tasty if it wasn't plastic, don't you agree? then it could be eaten =) hehe. well, you wouldn't want to eat it as it wouldn't really be cooked...plus, it could be important! "Will you be so kind as to tell me which of these objects will help me open the door? Is one of them the key? should we be giving them to you, or placing them in the boxes?" The doorkeeper says, "Since you have asked so nicely, I will help you. You will not need everything on the floor in this room. I will give you just a few of the things you do. The rock is one. another is the telescope. Just one is not the key however....Also, the items should be placed in the boxes. The doorkeeper looks bored as nothing has happened for five days. You have somehow mysteriously survived for that long without food or water...Hey, this is Lateral Adventure land! The doorkeeper begins humming to pass the time. She pauses to say, "I have the second room set up...feel free to continue examining the room." You do so and notice a large white cupboard, cleverly painted to blend in with the walls. You get the feeling you won't be able to open it until the host realizes she forgot something important in the room...;-) |

Host, what, perchance, did you forget? =) You look at the cabinet again and notice that, to your surprise, the doors have sprung open! Clearly the host has taken woubit's advice. You walk closer and notice a CD holder, a dog, and a plastic tongue inside the cabinet. You take them out, and the cabinet immediately closes. |

Dog -- a live dog? Yes, a live dog that seems to be smiling happily at you... Toy dog? Statue of a dog? Describe the plastic tongue in more detail please. Is it sticky? It is your basic plastic tongue. You touch it and it is not sticky. You suspect that the dog may have licked it in its time of captivity as it is slightly wet. And what exactly did you mean by "CD holder"? One of the fabric cases with little pockets inside that you put CDs in to protect them. |

RECAP: You are in a room. In the room is a magic kit, a homework sheet with 0/10 as the grade, some brown glob, a stereo, a small glass of hydroxyl acid (you think), a telescope, a portrait of a man, a globe, a rock, a calendar, a plastic ear, a live dog that is smiling at you, a plastic tongue, and a CD holder. There is also a cabinet in which items magically appear when the host forgets things. You are wearing a T-shirt, blue jeans, and a down jacket. In your pockets are an ancient stick of gum, a wad of lint, and a square piece of paper (now unfolded). The doorkeeper is still humming. And looking bored. And humming. Oh wait, I said that already... |

Describe the brown glob in more detail. What does it feel/look/smell like? It feels like old chocolate. It looks like old chocolate. And it smells like old chocolate. (And in fact, Septimus felt that if he were to eat it, it would taste like old chocolate too) Is the calendar themed? Yes, the theme is origami. Predicting the question forming in your mind...today's model is a pair of scissors. |

Can you take the page off the calendar and fold it into a pair of scissors? Yes, but this paper looks important! We don't want to fold it up! Or use the old homework as your origami sheet? No. The paper needs to be square and you don't have any scissors. How ironic. Plus, this paper looks important as well! |

"Beauty Will Rise" by Steven Curtis Chapman So our blanks are: Day World Wrong Voice Gone Watched Tears Down OK, so I suppose the calendar represents "day," the globe "world," your jacket "down," the homework "wrong"....hmmm. Thank you, Google. "It was the day the world went wrong I screamed till my voice was gone And watched through the tears as everything Came crashing down." "Beauty Will Rise" by Steven Curtis Chapman Wha...But I tried to cut all the important words out! How did you do that?! So our blanks are: Day World Wrong Voice Gone Watched Tears Down OK, so I suppose the calendar represents "day," the globe "world," your jacket "down," the homework "wrong"....hmmm. Maybe the glass of hydroxyl acid = "tears?" Try putting these items on their respective blanks on the floor You do so. As you do, the doorkeeper stops humming what you now recognize as the song "Beauty Will Rise", and begins to look at you with interest. Also, whenever you place a correct object in the box, it and the box melt away and are replaced by a word. Now you have: It was the day the world went wrong, I screamed till my ______ was _____, And ______ through the tears as everything, Came crashing down. |

I Googled "i screamed till my" "everything came crashing" and it was the first result. You did hide the source well; my initial guess was that it was a poem. And I should probably buy that CD eventually -- I have most of his others back home. Hmmm... "Voice" -- try the plastic tongue. "Gone" -- maybe the magic kit (making stuff disappear) or a part of it? "Watched" -- are you wearing a watch? Or is there some sort of clock in this room? Maybe the dog, since it keeps "watching" us? |

The box beeps and catapults the tongue out. Guess that's not it. "Gone" -- maybe the magic kit (making stuff disappear) or a part of it? The box accepts it! "Watched" -- are you wearing a watch? No Or is there some sort of clock in this room? No Maybe the dog, since it keeps "watching" us? Is the man clothed? You can't tell, you can only see his face on a white background. If so, what is he wearing? Are his clothes any particularly recognizable style? How old would you say the painting is? It seems to be fairly new. You would hazard a guess as to it being painted four years ago. |

Try the stereo for "voice." You do so. The box seems to accept it...then beeps and says "Insufficient use values". I have a snow day today! |

Is there a CD in the CD holder? If so, try dropping the CD holder in the "voice" box. Or try putting the CD in the stereo, playing it, and dropping that in the voice box. |

Is there a CD in the CD holder? Yes, in fact, there's nine of them. If so, try dropping the CD holder in the "voice" box. It's rejected. Or try putting the CD in the stereo, playing it, and dropping that in the voice box. Which one? By the way, the cabinet doors have opened again. Inside is a Sharpie. |

Test them all out using the stereo. What do they consist of? One is of someone groaning. Another seems to be a recording of that bit in Nintendogs where the person calls the dog. Another seems to be a recording of someone jogging (You can tell because they are singing 'Just keep jogging, just keep jogging' in a manner that should be instantly familiar to anyone that has watched Finding Nemo). Another is a soundtrack of really creepy music. Yet another seems to be of some kid begging his mother to buy something for him. The next one is a recording of a boring meeting. Another is of someone sobbing. Another is of someone that seems to finally be giving in to some demand. And the last one is of someone politely requesting something. (You don't have to listen to the entirety of each CD, just snippets. Most of them were only about 15 seconds long.) |

Hmmm...please describe the stereo in fuller detail. It is a basic black stereo. It has a place to put CDs in, and the screen that shows what track you're on. And could you please recap our inventory? You have a really old stick of gum, a wad of lint, and origami scissors in your pocket. In the room there is: a magic kit, a homework sheet with 0/10 as the grade, some brown glob, a stereo, a small glass of hydroxyl acid (you think), a telescope, a portrait of a man, a globe, a rock, a calendar, a plastic ear, a live dog that is smiling at you, a plastic tongue, and a CD holder (with 9 CDs). You continue thinking. 'Insufficient use values'...what could that mean? |

How about dropping the CDs and stereo into the box? You first label the CDs, just in case. The box rejects the CDs, but the stereo is accepted! The doorkeeper smiles. "Good job. I'll be waiting for you in the next room," she says, fading into the air. Startled, you run towards her. "Alice preferred it this way. Why don't you?" she says. The last you see of her is her grin (none of this was a clue for anything!). You crawl through the door. Before you is another room with a white ceiling, white walls, white floor...And a door with a doorkeeper. She says that you can return to any room at any time. Inside this room there is: A cartoon Plastic eyeballs Lemon Paper heart Giggling baby Rain Red drink Map Mysterious cloud of smoke Math problem Small kitteh. You walk over to the kitteh and give it a cheezburgur. The kitteh seems to enjoy it very much. There are words on the floor of this room too! These say: Heaven is the ____ of a _______ girl With dark ______ eyes That disappear when she ______ |

So this is a Steven Curtis Chapman-themed adventure? I approve. So does the kitteh. Heaven is the face of a little girl With dark brown eyes That disappear when she smiles Put the smiley cartoon in the "smiles" box, please. You do so. It and the box melt away, to be replaced by the word 'smiles'. Can you please recap our inventory? In your pockets are an ancient stick of gum, a wad of lint, and origami scissors. You decide to test the scissors by cutting off a loose thread. Yikes! Those things are sharp! In room one you have: some old chocolate, a portrait of a man, a globe, a rock, a calendar (now minus one sheet), a plastic ear, a live dog that is smiling at you, a plastic tongue, and a CD holder. In this room you have: plastic eyeballs, a lemon, a paper heart, a giggling baby, rain, a red drink, a map, a mysterious cloud of smoke, a math problem, and a small kitteh with silver fur and lavender eyes. My computer didn't think 'kitteh' was a word. I made it learn the spelling to punish it. Mwahahahaha! *evil grin* |

In this room, you see a dictionary on the floor, and the words say: Right now all I can _______ are ________/_________ And right now all I can _____ are ______ of sorrow From the other ________ of all this _______ Is that you I ______? ________ loud and _______ out to me? (The two blanks separated by a slash are two different words. If you were in the room this would be obvious, as there would be two boxes, but...) Oh, and **********BLOOPER********** The box accepted the down jacket, but only the BOX formed the word 'down', and left the jacket on the floor. You picked it up and put it back on, as it's rather cold in these rooms. |

So c=1 as well. Right. Would tearing the paper heart in two and dropping it in the "grief" box work (a "broken heart")? No. Nice thinking though. Oh, and before I forget, that blank is actually 'pain'. Not 'grief'. |

I wish we had bread...that would work great for "pain." Nice. Very lateral. But you don't have any bread. You have cake, if you want it. Or possibly a cheezburgur to share with the kitteh. Can you recap the CDs again? Yes. You have nine CDs. Most of the CDs are only around 15 seconds long. |

Inventory recap please? I can't remember what's been dumped in the boxes and what we still have... Okay, in our pockets, we have an ancient stick of Juicy Fruit gum, a wad of lint, and origami scissors that really work. We are wearing a purple T-shirt, blue jeans with purple embroidery, and a green down jacket. In the first room we have a rock, a calendar (now minus one sheet), a live dog that is smiling at you, and a CD holder (with seven CDs). In the second room we have a paper heart, a red drink, a map, a math problem, and a small kitteh with silver fur and lavender eyes named Moonmist. Well, the kitteh isn't actually in this room, since she follows us around, but you know what I mean. In this room, we have a dictionary. |

Does our shirt have any writing on it? Yes, it says 'He makes everything Beautiful' on the front in pink, with 'Rebecca St. James' underneath. On the back it says 'Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise-the fruit of lips that openly profess His name. Heb. 13:15' Didn't we get rid of the red drink (wine)? No. You suggested the wine go in the 'bitter' box, but the lemon worked instead. So, we still have the wine. |

Take the word "side" out of the dictionary and put it in the "side" box? This works! You enter another room...and immediately trip over something. Ow. You look at it, strange, it seems to be invisible. You put your jacket on it. This time the room has refreshingly different light purple walls. The ceiling and floor are still white. In the room are: The invisible thing A sphere Owl Racer Angry guy Daydreamer Hide-and-seek game Chunk of ice A green square Broken thing Big plastic thing Hot air balloon Clock Question mark Quicksand A plastic ear (Forgive my lack of grammar-copy-and-pasting it straight from my 'cheat sheet'.) The floor words say: Well I can’t _____ to see your _____ again The _____ when your eyes _____ along with all my _____ And I can’t wait to _____ you sing a _____ Maybe “Jesus _____ Me” or a song you _____/_____ there Again, the two blanks separated by a slash are two different boxes. There's a cabinet in this room, as we have reached the point of no return (or, the point I have all the rooms planned out to :-)). |

Wild idea: try breaking the "1" off the clock and using it for "one". Good try, but the clock is digital. |

Angry guy for "troubles"? No. Inventory recap please? In your pockets, you have an ancient stick of Juicy Fruit gum, a wad of lint, and origami scissors that really work. You are wearing a purple T-shirt, blue jeans with purple embroidery, and a green down jacket. In the first room you have a rock, a calendar (now minus one sheet), a live dog that is smiling at you (already used for 'smile'), and a CD holder (with seven CDs). In the second room you have red wine, a map, and a small kitteh with silver fur and lavender eyes named Moonmist. Well, the kitteh isn't actually in this room, since she follows you around, but you know what I mean. In the third room, you have a dictionary (minus the word 'side'). In this fourth room, you have a sphere, an owl, a racer, an angry guy, a daydreamer, a hide-and-seek game, a chunk of ice, a green square, a broken CD player, a big plastic thing, a question mark, and some quicksand. There is also a cabinet with doors that will not open unless I forget something important. The words on the floor say: Well I can’t wait to see your smile again The one when your eyes disappear along with all my troubles. And I can’t wait to hear you sing a song Maybe “Jesus Loves Me” or a song you learned up there. You know your mission is to fill in all the blanks by placing the correct item. OK... Try the quicksand. Or the cat. Neither works. What are the CDs of again? |

The word "Troubles" from the dictionary? DING DING DING! We have a winner! You place the word 'troubles' into the box. They melt into the floor, the door opens, and you enter the next room. In here are brown, yellow, black, blue, and white boxes (one of each), that each read "Stand here", a box that is pulsing with light, a picture of a mom, a picture of a young girl, a picture of a crowd of people, a valentine card, another dog, a blueprint of a building, and another picture, one of a bushy-haired, slightly buck-toothed girl that looks somewhat familiar... The words on the floor are: I am ______, I am _______ I’m _______ and I’m ________ But You are _______, yes, You are faithful I am _______ and believing God please ______ my unbelief Cause You are faithful, yes, You are faithful |

You can tell that she's a mother because the picture is in a frame that says around the border, "I Love Mom". The girl has blond hair and blue eyes, and tan skin. The girl in the last picture is wearing some sort of black robes, and-hang on! The girl in the picture just waved at you! You stare at the photo-yep, it's definitely moving. |

Stand in the "stand here" boxes, each in turn. You step into the brown box and a sense of absolute exhaustion washes over you. As soon as you exit the box, the feeling fades. You enter the yellow box. It immediately stretches and grows longer. You walk forward, curious-and trip and fall on your face. Ow. You exit that box (tripping on the way) and enter the black box. Immediately, everything around you fades to black. You can't see anything. You feel around and manage to get out. After that, you enter the blue box. Suddenly you feel chilly, no matter if your jacket is on or off. Finally, you step into the white box. Gusts of wind blow over you. Man, these are some strange boxes. |

Try the dictionary for "help." This doesn't work. This one might be kinda tricky-if you want a hint, just ask the doorkeeper. |

Doorkeeper, hint? The doorkeeper pauses to think. "Hmm. Well, the item isn't one I'd immediately associate with help. In fact, the item isn't very helpful at all." Just so you know, you can always ask the doorkeeper for a hint if you get stuck. |

Help... I would try the picture of Mom. If that doesn't work, then the picture of Hermione Granger, followed by one of the boxes that says "Stand Here". What's in the blueprints of the building? Any shortcuts? Try that if none of the above worked. |

What's in the blueprints of the building? Any shortcuts? Try that if none of the above worked. You doubt that the blueprint is of this building. You try it in the box, but that doesn't work either. Welcome to the puzzle, Dlcygnet! |

Scared: Try putting the word "scared" from the dictionary into the box. This doesn't work. Read the CDs - what are the titles? You labeled them 'creepy' 'jogging' 'begging' 'giving in' 'polite request' 'meeting' and 'sobbing'. There is a cabinet in this room as well. It opens, revealing a CD marked 'confused'. |

Look at the map. What's on it? Use that for the help box. The map is one of the world, marked with several stars. Up in the corner (next to the key) is another star, labeled 'Possible place for LTPF convention?' You try it in the 'help' box, and it doesn't work. Try the 'creepy' CD in the scared box. This works! |

Swap the question mark out for the "confused" CD. Put the question mark in the 'help' box. If that doesn't work, vice versa. You are unable to swap the question mark with the 'confused' CD, as the items melt into the floor once used. You try the CD in the 'help' box, but it doesn't work. |

The quicksand? (If you fell in it, you'd certainly cry for help...) YES!! The door opens, revealing a room with a pair of shoes, a piece of paper with a green check mark on it, a tiny coffin, a leaf, a small maze, a seed, a list of all the even numbers, a tile (like on the floor of bathrooms), another calendar, and a sketch of someone whose arm is raised. The words on the floor say: ___ are You God? Cause You are ____ ____ to be so much different than I ____ And ___ are You God? Cause I am ___ life to be so much ___ than I had ___ You ___ that I'm afraid to ask these questions But You know they are there And if You ___ my ___ the way that I believe You do You know that I ___ in You But still I have these ___ As usual, those two blanks right next to each other are two separate boxes. INVENTORY RECAP: In your pockets, you have an ancient stick of Juicy Fruit gum, a wad of lint, and origami scissors that really work. You are wearing a purple T-shirt, blue jeans with purple embroidery, and a green down jacket. In the first room you have a rock, a calendar (now minus one sheet), a live dog that is smiling at you (already used for 'smile'), and a CD holder (with seven CDs). In the second room you have a map and a small kitteh with silver fur and lavender eyes named Moonmist. Well, the kitteh isn't actually in this room, since she follows you around, but you know what I mean. In the third room, you have a dictionary (minus the words 'side' and 'all'). In the fourth room, you have a sphere, an owl, a racer, an angry guy, a daydreamer, a hide-and-seek game, a chunk of ice, a green square, and a big plastic thing. In the fifth room, you have yellow, black, blue, and white boxes (one of each), that each read "Stand here", a box that is pulsing with light, a picture of a mom, a picture of a young girl, a picture of a crowd of people, a valentine card, another dog, a blueprint of a building, and another picture of Hermione Granger. In this room, you have a pair of shoes, a piece of paper with a green check mark on it, a tiny coffin, a leaf, a small maze, a seed, a list of all the even numbers, a tile, another calendar, and a sketch of someone whose arm is raised. You know your mission is to fill in all the blanks by placing the correct item. You also know that there are twelve rooms total. |

So that just leaves... Turning - the sphere? No. (is it actually a globe? Also no.) Out - the small maze (Let me out!) No. Imagined - the Daydreamer Yes! Believe - Picture of Mom No. Questions - Paper with the Check mark on it (a test full of questions? No-it's just a piece of paper that, besides the check mark, is totally blank.) No. Blanks left: Turning, out, believe, questions. When you do the room inventory recap, would you please include the list of CD labels from several posts up, thanks! Certainly! Here it is now: One is of someone groaning. Another seems to be of some kid begging his mother to buy something for him. The next one is a recording of a boring meeting. Another is of someone sobbing. Another is of someone that seems to finally be giving in to some demand. And the last one is of someone politely requesting something. There's a cabinet in this room as well. It opens and reveals a CD labeled 'evicted'. |

Turning - Leaf (turning colors); if that doesn't work, try coaxing the dog to chase his tail and turn in circles. Out - CD marked "evicted" Believe - If the leaf didn't work above, try it here. Then the seed (and the melting chunk of ice?), which might eventually leaf out. (Be Leave(s)) Questions - Try the picture of a young girl |

Turning - Leaf (turning colors); if that doesn't work, try coaxing the dog to chase his tail and turn in circles. Neither works (although the dog now looks extremely dizzy and is stumbling around in circles). Out - CD marked "evicted" Yes! Believe - If the leaf didn't work above, try it here. Then the seed (and the melting chunk of ice?), which might eventually leaf out. (Be Leave(s)) Neither, although very clever ideas. Questions - Try the picture of a young girl This also fails to work. P.S. What kind of Shoes? Dockers? They look a lot like this. Blanks left: Turning, believe, questions. |

Turning - the racer (as long as he doesn't have to turn right...); the small maze if that fails (lots of turns); if that doesn't work, grab the old calendar and rip out the "Beginning of Fall" date (or beginning of Spring); If that fails, the origami scissors (turning paper into art?) Believe - the box with glowing light; if that fails, cut/rip Easter out of the old calendar and toss that in or <insert>; if that fails, the small coffin (Everybody believes in death) Questions - Try yelling into the slot "What goes in here?" Then address the question to the doorkeeper. If all of the above fail, try appropriate word clippings from the dictionary. Inventory Recap, please? |

Play the CD labeled confused. If it's full of questions, put that CD which appeared out of thin air in the "Questions" box. First of all, yes, it's a CD of someone asking a ton of questions. Secondly, it didn't 'appear out of thin air'. If you go to my Friday, August 17th post, you see it appeared in the cabinets in the rooms that are there for that very reason. Thirdly, it works, and you can move onto the next room. In this room, the words say: This is not how it should be This is not how it could be But this is how it is And our God is in _____. In this room is a remote control. Inventory recap is just a couple posts up. For the next inventory recap, please remove items from the list that have already been used or are no longer accessible. Lemme guess: the blank is "control"? Use the remote in the blank? Yup! (I figured you've made it more than halfway, let's reward you with an easy room!) The door opens, revealing a room with light blue walls. The words on the floor say: February 20th, _____ On the ___ with her ____ Putting her ____ on Getting ____ for another ____ February 20th ____ says, “Mom is it ____?” “Does God really have a big ____] house?” “Does it really have a lot of ____?” And she said, “I really, really want to ____ there.” And I said, “So ____ don’t ____ just talk to Him?” That’s what we did On February 20th In the room there is also a giant 'Y', a door, some curtains, a shallow cup, a wrapped present, a Möbius strip, and the combination of the books Aha! Insight and Aha! Gotcha! by Martin Gardner. Inventory recap: In your pockets, you have an ancient stick of Juicy Fruit gum, a wad of lint, and origami scissors that really work. February 20th 2008 On the floor with her mom Puttin’ her shoes on Getting ready for another day February 20th She says, “Mom, is it true? Does God really have a big, big house Does it really have a lot of rooms?” And she says, “I really, really want to go there.” And I said, “Why don't we just talk to him." Floor - Tile Mom - Picture of Mom Shoes - the pair of shoes Ready - CD of somebody giving in to some demand. Day - Pull a single day out of the other calendar and use it. She - Picture of a young girl. True - Paper with the Check Mark Big - Mobius Strip (Infinity is Big) Rooms - Dictionary clipping of the word "Rooms" Go - Pick one of the "Stand Here" boxes. Ready - The Rock? (Let's Rock!) or Dictionary Clipping: Ready? Big - List of Even numbers (That would be a HUGE list) Rooms - Small maze? If this doesn't work, grab the shallow cup (tea cup? coffee cup? shot glass?), ask the doorkeeper for some coffee and "with room" and put that in the box. Otherwise, the blueprint of a building (that I thought we had already used). Go - Jogging CD? What's in the wrapped present? Shake it, find a way to gently open it without ripping all the pretty wrapping. What about the owl? The hide-and-seek-game? The daydreamer? The picture of Hermione? And all the other stuff that was used in the last room? It's still on the list - thus my confusion. |

Ready - The Rock? (Let's Rock!) or Dictionary Clipping: Ready? This works! Big - List of Even numbers (That would be a HUGE list) It is a HUGE list-in fact, it extends through a wormhole into another dimension (I've been wanting to say that ever since I put that into the inventory :D). But it doesn't work. Rooms - Small maze? Yes! If this doesn't work, grab the shallow cup (tea cup? coffee cup? shot glass?), ask the doorkeeper for some coffee and "with room" and put that in the box. Otherwise, the blueprint of a building (that I thought we had already used). Go - Jogging CD? Yes! What's in the wrapped present? Shake it, find a way to gently open it without ripping all the pretty wrapping. You shake it. You can't hear anything. You try to open it. It gives you a shock. Ow. What about the owl? The hide-and-seek-game? The daydreamer? The picture of Hermione? And all the other stuff that was used in the last room? It's still on the list - thus my confusion. ...Oops. Sorry about that. Allow me to correct it in a separate post. |

And since that was all the blanks, let's move onto the next room! The words here say: God is it ____ that You’re ____ of me at this ____? God is it true that You ____ every prayer that I ____? God is it true ____ time my heart ____ You know it? Well if it’s ____ true Then that ____ be You I hear ____ ____ Me In this room, there's a person just standing up, a teacher with a small laptop,-this seems to be what she's using to teach-and a punching bag. In your pockets, you have an ancient stick of Juicy Fruit gum, a wad of lint, and origami scissors that really work. You are wearing a purple T-shirt, blue jeans with purple embroidery, and a green down jacket. In the first room you have a CD holder (with seven CDs). In the second room you have a small kitteh with silver fur and lavender eyes named Moonmist. Well, the kitteh isn't actually in this room, since she follows you around, but you know what I mean. In the third room, you have a dictionary (minus the words 'side', 'believe', 'ready', and 'all'). In the fourth room, you have a sphere, an angry guy, a a chunk of ice, a green square, and a big plastic thing. In the fifth room, you have yellow, black, blue, and white boxes (one of each), that each read "Stand here", a box that is pulsing with light, and another dog. In the sixth room, you have a tiny coffin, a leaf, a seed, a list of all the even numbers, and another calendar (minus one sheet). In the seventh room, there's nothing. In the eighth room, you have a door, some curtains, a shallow cup, a wrapped present, a Möbius strip, and the combination of the books Aha! Insight and Aha! Gotcha! by Martin Gardner. You know your mission is to fill in all the blanks by placing the correct item. You also know that there are twelve rooms total. Okay. I think that's everything. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. |

Wait... what went in the "big" slot? Address the doorkeeper: I fear I may be slowly going insane. How many rooms left of the 12? God, is it true that you're thinkin' of me at this moment? God, is it true that you hear every prayer that I pray? God, is it true every time my heart beats, you know it? Well, if it's all true, Then that must be you I hear saying, "Trust Me." True - grab a piece of the calendar cover and use the origami scissors to cut out a number "1" [Computer language: 0 = False, 1 = True] Thinking - Copy of Aha! Insight... Moment - Am I wearing a watch by any chance? Hear - Grab one of the "stand here" boxes (here/hear) Pray - CD of a polite request? Every - Dictionary clipping? Beats - take a few swings at the punching bag and toss it in. All - Mobius Strip Must - curtains (Musty?) Saying - CD of boring meeting Trust - the dog |

Wait... what went in the "big" slot? *sigh* I fear I may be slowly going insane. It was the big plastic thing. Mea culpa. Address the doorkeeper: I fear I may be slowly going insane. How many rooms left of the 12? This is the ninth room, so if you include this room, then four. God, is it true that you're thinkin' of me at this moment? God, is it true that you hear every prayer that I pray? God, is it true every time my heart beats, you know it? Well, if it's all true, Then that must be you I hear saying, "Trust Me." Yup. True - grab a piece of the calendar cover and use the origami scissors to cut out a number "1" [Computer language: 0 = False, 1 = True] Thinking - Copy of Aha! Insight... Moment - Am I wearing a watch by any chance? Hear - Grab one of the "stand here" boxes (here/hear) Pray - CD of a polite request? Every - Dictionary clipping? This one works. None of the rest do. Beats - take a few swings at the punching bag and toss it in. All - Mobius Strip Must - curtains (Musty?) Saying - CD of boring meeting Trust - the dog |

OUCH! A lot of fail... Is the teacher's laptop connected to a printer? Does the teacher have anything to write with? Any other details? Is the teacher actually teaching at this moment? Examine the standing man - anything useful on him? Is he praying? True - Small Coffin? (Only guarantees in life: Death and Taxes) Thinking - ? (Probably the Teacher, but not ready to use that yet.) Moment - ? Hear - ? Pray - Lint (Sounds like Lent); if not, Cut out the Calendar day for Lent Beats - The angry guy All - List of ALL even numbers; If that doesn't work, cut "All" out of the calendar on "All Saints Day" Must - Stick of Juicy Fruit [Must (noun) - new wine; the unfermented juice] Saying - Try each of the CDs in turn... they're all saying SOMETHING Trust - ? OUCH! A lot of fail... Hey, nobody's perfect! Is the teacher's laptop connected to a printer? Yes. Does the teacher have anything to write with? No. Any other details? Not really. Is the teacher actually teaching at this moment? The teacher is talking to the computer. Perhaps she's preparing for a lesson, or is teaching online. Examine the standing man - anything useful on him? Not really. Is he praying? No. True - Small Coffin? (Only guarantees in life: Death and Taxes) Thinking - ? None of these work, although you've got some excellent lateral ideas I wish I'd thought of. Try dictionary clippings for anything left empty. This works for everything but 'beats'. I was feeling lazy when I designed this room, okay? |

But... but.. the dictionary clipping for ALL was already used... oh well, I'll pretend it was clipped out from all-ow or some similar word. Suspension of disbelief: Still intact. Beats - Do Beats come from seeds? I think they're roots, so no... How about the box with pulsing light (pulse = beats? Rhythmic beats if not heartbeats); if that doesn't work, challenge the standing guy a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors, as soon as he wins - toss him in (He beat me!). |

I don't even want to breathe right now All I want to do is close my eyes But I don't want to open them again Until I'm standing on the other side Even - list of all Even numbers Breathe - plastic lung Want - CD of kid begging his mother for something Close - the door? Open - the curtains? Again - the Mobius strip Standing - Standing Person Side - the leaf? If these don't work, ask the teacher to borrow her computer/printer to generate the appropriate words. Even - list of all Even numbers Breathe - plastic lung Want - CD of kid begging his mother for something Close - the door? Open - the curtains? Again - the Mobius strip This... Standing - Standing Person Side - the leaf? ...and this don't work. But the rest do! If these don't work, ask the teacher to borrow her computer/printer to generate the appropriate words. She doesn't respond. You notice that's she's wearing headphones. If that doesn't work, dictionary clippings where available (I guess I could butcher "inside" for Side). This works for 'again', but not 'side'. |

Bottom - CD of sobbing person [hit bottom]; If that fails, take off my jeans and fold them so the "bottom" faces up. Neither works. Fall - "Pride" dictionary clipping? [Pride cometh before a fall] No, great idea though. Words - [Is this really the last room? If so, try the whole dictionary.] You're not on the last room, you're on the next to last. Regardless, you toss the dictionary in anyways. It works! Explain - Copy of Aha! Insight etc. *BLOOPER* The teacher actually did work for 'explain'. Apologies. Know - The teacher? (Minus gear) Therefore, this will not work. Alive - The Dog? No, but OTRT. Meet - CD of boring Meeting This works as well! Blanks left: Bottom, fall, know, alive. |

Fall = yellow box? Yes! You enter the last room. Here the words say: We planted the ____ while the ____ of our ____ soaked the ground The sky lost its ____ and the ____ lost its ____ to____ brown Now the ____ in the ____ has turned the earth hard as ____ And ____ the seed lies beneath ____ and snow And my heart’s ____ now, but I’m not ____ go Of this ____ I have that ____ me There's a lantern, a rain cloud, another map of the world, another rock, some more boxes that read STAND HERE (a gray one and a red one), and a piece of iridium. INVENTORY RECAP: In your pockets, you have an ancient stick of Juicy Fruit gum, a wad of lint, and origami scissors that really work. You are wearing a purple T-shirt, blue jeans with purple embroidery, and a green down jacket. In the first room you have a CD holder (with three CDs). In the second room you have nothing we haven't already used. In the third room, there's nothing. In the fourth room, you have a chunk of ice. In the fifth room, you have blue and white boxes (one of each), that both read "Stand here". In the sixth room, you have a tiny coffin, a leaf, and a seed. In the seventh room, there's nothing. Another is of someone that seems to finally be giving in to some demand. And the last one is of someone politely requesting something. Um. In case you're wondering about the many items that have mysteriously disappeared, they vanished as soon as you stepped into the last room for no discernible reason. |

What happens when you stand in the gray and red boxes? You step into the gray box and the sound of someone giving a lecture on something surrounds you. When you stand in the red box, all noise immediately stops and you are surrounded by silence. We planted the seed while the tears of our grief soaked the ground The sky lost its sun, and the world lost its green to lifeless brown Now the chilling wind has turned the earth hard as stone And silently seed rise beneath ice and snow And my heart's heavy now But I'm not letting go Of this hope I have that tells me Yeah. Seed - The seed Tears - Think about how I've apparently lost mah Kitteh and cry into the slot. This doesn't work, as the kitteh comes into the room and rubs against your legs, making you happy. Grief - CD of person sobbing Sun - (Probably Red Box) This doesn't work either. World - Map of the World Green - Leaf Lifeless - tiny coffin Chilling - Chunk of Ice? Or the Blue Box? This one. Wind - White Box Stone - the Rock Heavy - The chunk of Iridium (2nd most dense element?) Letting - CD of somebody giving in to a demand Hope - Lantern + Rain Cloud = Rainbow? No, but very clever idea. Tells - (By process of elimination... last CD or grey box) It's the box. Blanks left: Tears, sun, hope, silent, ice. |

Great adventure! Thanks for putting up with us (and by us I mean me) when the puzzle stalled out. Thanks! And don't worry about it, the lapses in activity usually happened when I had crazy amounts of homework, so I'd be like, phew, no LTPF to distract me right now. I spend waaaaaay too much time on here. |
