First, let us make sure, this bee is an insect, right? not a competition, such as a quilting "bee"? Assuming no surprises here... Was one of them stung by the bee? more than one? Were any of them allergic to the bee's sting? Did one of the people consume honey made by the bee? more than one? Had the bee eaten something toxic that got into the honey? |

Did any of them die because another died? Unrelated: not relatives? Not knowing each other? Never met? Did the bee die? "a bee" = one individual bee? |

Did the two people who weren't stung die of different causese (i.e. different from each other)? Was either of them killed in an accident? Did either of them die because someone didn't save them? Didn't perform an operation on them? Did the person who was stung die directly from the sting? Did this person die immediately after the sting? Shortly afterwards? More than a day afterwards? |

Were other people nearby but not watching? Did Bill die within a few minutes of Alice? Within 30 minutes? Was he driving the boat? Did the boat crash into something? Did it explode spontaneously? Was Colin inside whatever Bill's boat crashed into? on top of it? So Alice fell into some water immediately after being stung by the bee? Was she trying to run away from a swarm of bees? or was she already standing by the water, and lost her balance when startled by the bee? Did Bill see Alice fall into the water? If so, did he realize she fell? or did he think she was diving in on purpose? If not, did Bill see Alice at any moment during the situation in this puzzle? Did he see the bee? |

This is great. I keep thinking it comes from a book of classics Did Alice fall into the lake from a jetty? From something that was surrounded by water? From the shore? From a cliff? From a dam? A manmade structure? A wall? If Alice hadn't fallen into the lake, would Bill have crashed the boat? If she hadn't drowned, would he have crashed? Did Bill crash into another boat? A rock? A land mass? A wall? An animal? Did he realise that someone had fallen into the water? Did anyone realise that someone had fallen into the water? Did she shout as she fell? Was Bill driving his boat on the same lake as Alice drowned in? |

Did Bill crash into a wall because he swerved to avoid something? To take a closer look at something? Was he going fast when he hit the wall? Were there any other (relevant) boats on the lake? Did he crash because he lost control of the boat? If so, did something make him lose control? Did he crash because something was wrong with the boat? Did it explode on hitting the wall? Did Colin enter the lake to rescue Bill? If so, did he die in the water, i.e. mostly submerged? Did he see the crash from the shore? From a boat on the lake? From something else on the lake? From the air? Was Alice standing on/in the thing Bill crashed into when she was stung? Was it a harbour wall? Part of a building? Did Bill see any evidence of Alice having fallen into the lake? Was it part of Colin's job to rescue people from the lake? Was he a lifeguard? Did he see Bill before he crashed into the wall? Did the see the explosion? Was he on the wall that Bill crashed into? Did some foreign body enter the engine or other mechanical part of the boat, causing it not to work properly? If so, did it enter from the air? From the water? Did Bill lose control of the speed of the boat? The steering? Did he crash into a dam? Was the wall at the edge of the lake? Near the shore but surrounded by water? Out in the middle of the lake? Did he lose control because of something which affected his ability to control the boat but not the working parts of the boat? |

Are the answers to these all "no"? Did some foreign body enter the engine or other mechanical part of the boat, causing it not to work properly? If so, did it enter from the air? From the water? Did Bill lose control of the boat because he was distracted by something? Did he get something in his eye? Did part of the boat not work as expected? Did part of the boat cease to work? Not work at the precise time Bill needed it to work? Did the waves caused by Alice's fall affect the movement of the boat? Did Colin hear the explosion? Did he feel it? Could he have seen it from where he was at the time it happened, if he had been looking in that direction? Was Colin blind? Partially-sighted? Was he in the vicinity of the lake for work? Did he die from head injuries? Did he bleed? Was he cut by something? Did he choke? |

Is this a realistic puzzle? Could this really happen? You referenced 'Final Destination' in another puzzle, and from what I know about those movies they are a series of very unrealistic (if not completely unrealistic) chain-of-event deaths. So I'm wondering if we're dealing with a scenario in which Alice fell into the water and was run over by Bill's boat (yuck), which disabled the motor and/or the rudder, sending the boat into a wall, causing the boat or something else to explode, sending some projectile into Colin...any of this accurate? |

Ah, there were some more events in between the explosion and Colin's death, weren't there? Is it relevant what Colin was doing when he heard/became aware of the explosion? Is the manner in which he became aware of the explosion relevant? Did he go to try to rescue Bill and realise it was pointless? Was he on his way back from not rescuing Bill when he was hit? Had he been in the water and exited it when he was hit? Was the thing belonging to Bill which hit Colin projected from the boat at the time of the explosion? Did it lodge somewhere else initially? Was it a coin? Keys? A ring? An item of jewellery? Was the thing belonging to Alice which made Bill lose control of the boat a thing which floated? Was it something she had been wearing? Holding? I meant "projected" as in "flung", but for some reason I couldn't think of the word "flung" last night. Did the boat explode as soon as it hit the wall? Was the thing that hit Colin flung from the boat by the force of the explosion, at the moment of explosion? How much time elapsed between the explosion and Colin being hit: less than a couple of seconds? Less than a minute? the time it took for the projectile to travel from the boat to Colin's head? Was Colin on the "something" on the lake when he heard the explosion? Did he move from this something to try to rescue Bill? Did he actually physically try to rescue Bill? Or did he call the emergency services? Alert someone else to the explosion? Was the thing that hit Colin a phone? Was the thing Alice was holding when she fell in the lake a plastic bag? A balloon? I meant "projected" as in "flung", but for some reason I couldn't think of the word "flung" last night. Ah. Did the boat explode as soon as it hit the wall? No Was the thing that hit Colin flung from the boat by the force of the explosion, at the moment of explosion? No How much time elapsed between the explosion and Colin being hit: less than a couple of seconds? Less than a minute? About a minute the time it took for the projectile to travel from the boat to Colin's head? No Was Colin on the "something" on the lake when he heard the explosion? What "something"? He wasn't on the lake. Did he move from this something to try to rescue Bill? Yes Did he actually physically try to rescue Bill? Yes Or did he call the emergency services? No Alert someone else to the explosion? No Was the thing that hit Colin a phone? No Was the thing Alice was holding when she fell in the lake a plastic bag? A balloon? An epi-pen? No to these |

This "something": Did he see the crash from the shore? From a boat on the lake? From something else on the lake? This-ish -- from something near the shore Did Colin hear the boat hit the wall? Did he see the boat hit the wall? Did he see the explosion? Did he hear the explosion? In between the crash and the explosion, did Colin move? Did he get into the lake? Did he swim? Did he use a boat? Another form of transport? Did he interact with Bill? Did he speak to Bill? Touch him? Was Bill knocked out in the crash? was he conscious in between the crash and the explosion? Did he do anything relevant in between the crash and the explosion? At what point did Colin try to rescue Bill: after the crash but before the explosion? After the explosion? |

So, the thing that hit Colin was not thrown from the boat in the explosion, and it hit Colin about a minute after the explosion - is that right? Was it on Bill's person at the time of the explosion? Was he holding it? Did it kill Colin pretty much immediately? If so, is it safe to assume it travelled towards Colin's head fairly briskly? Did it travel in a straight trajectory from its origin to Colin's head? Was it a bullet? A gun? Was the delay between the explosion and it hitting Colin due to the effect of heat? Did Colin see Bill after the explosion? Did he see part of him? Was Bill blown to pieces? Was the thing on Bill's person when it began the final leg of its journey to Colin's head? |

Was the metal object in some kind of container before the crash/explosion? Was it in a cupboard? Was it part of another object? Did part of it melt/burn during/after the explosion, leaving only the metal part? Did it travel directly from part of the boat to Colin's head? Did it travel directly from the water to Colin's head? Was it smaller than a golf ball? Smaller than a tennis ball? Bigger than a watermelon? Was it a sphere? A cube? A object with a geometric shape? An irregular object? Was it a piece of cutlery? Nice touch, the fire extinguisher Was the thing of Alice's something similarly ironic? Was it something that is supposed to prevent people from drowning? A life jacket? A float? Arm bands? A rubber ring? Was Alice intending to go swimming when she fell into the lake? Was she holding the thing because she was about to put it on to keep her safe while she went swimming? |

All you need to know is what it was of Alice's that caused the boat accident. You know that it was a metal object, that she had some kind of disability, and that she was not planning on swimming. |

Wheelchair? Cane? This, and that's a **********SPOILER********** Alice was going for a walk on a path overlooking a lake when a bee stung her. Startled, she fell off the path and into the water, where she drowned. When falling, she dropped her hollow metal cane, which eventually floated across the lake. Meanwhile, Bill was piloting a motorboat on the lake. Eventually, the cane drifted and was drawn into the boat's propeller, causing it to swerve out of control and crash into a rock wall. The boat exploded, killing Bill. Colin was staying at a nearby beach house and heard the explosion. He ran out to the boat to try to save Bill, but the boat's fire extinguisher ruptured in the flames, causing it to launch across the boat.... Exit Colin. And if it hadn't been for that godforsaken bee... Nice work everyone (and there were quite a few of you). New puzzle soon. |

Once, when I was really little (like four or something), I was on one of those two-people swings with a friend. A bee came along, and me and my friend froze, because we had heard that if you stayed still, bees wouldn't sting you (which is true, of course). However, being on a swing, we continued to move, and the bee proceeded to sting us both. I've been scared of bees ever since. |
