was there a typo? or did the headline say exactly what the person writing it was intending to say? is it likely the person who wrote the headline thought it was true? was it one of those sentences that are true and false at the same time? was it essentially true, but could be interpreted in a way that made it false? April's fool? |

Did the headline imply something unintended by its author? Did it suggest that something impossible had been done? Achieving immortality? Did it misuse a word? Use a word that can mean more than one thing? Misrepresent some statistics or facts? |

So statistics about overweight people are irrel? So that words like most", "many", "few",, and phrases like "on the rise", are are all irrel? I assume so but sometimes I like to get clarification... Does the headline refer to overweight people of a certain age? Does it not take into account overweight people of a certain age when it should have, and that's what makes it obviously false? Children relevant? Does it refer to other physical diseases? Attitudes of overweight people? Does it refer to how much overweight people eat? Does it refer to any other habits of overweight people? Does it refer to "acutely" overweight people? (I don't see how someone could have an acute case of being overweight) Isthe reason that the headline is false, is that it misuses a word or phrase, in the sense that the writer of the headline did not understand the meaning or the word or phrase? (as an example, some people use "literally" when they really mean "virtually", or "I could care less", when they really mean "I couldn't care less") |

Is the exact word it used to refer to overweight people relevant? Did it use a euphemism? A colloquial term? |

(Ah, thanks Enjay - we have something to hook into here now.) Nimue, about the word used to refer to overweight people in the headline - could it be interpreted to refer to people that aren't overweight in the medical sense? |

Was the headline intended to be a simple declarative statement or generalisation about overweight people? Did the headline make a statement in the present tense, which was obviously false? future tense? past tense? (Well Nimue, you always apologise about your puzzles being too easy, but this one, well, has some of us puzzled) |

Did it claim there was a physical health benefit to being overweight? A mental benefit? Did it claim something about the personality of overweight people? Their life expectancy? |

The fact that you can't be 'not too overweight' - if you're overweight, by definition you weight too much? |

Did it overlook the fact that the health dangers of being overweight far outweigh (excuse the pun) the benefits? Is the point that if your weight is helping you live longer, you are not in fact overweight but actually the right weight? |

A headline like "Excess Pounds Lead [or Overweight Leads] to Longer Life" has to be false. It should say something like "Weight Norms Have Been Set Too Low." Please set your minds on my new puzzle at the bottom of the page. |
