When Valentia complained to her therapist about her parents, he earnestly rephrased her complaint, saying, "You feel that your parents always favored your sister over you." This might not sound like much of a family, but her reply showed her family to be very enviable. How come? (In case this puzzle looks familiar, I posted it once before, but it vanished before getting solved when the forum pager was overhauled. So let's try again!!}

Did her reply confirm the doctor's statement? Contradict it? Expand on it? Clarify it?

Did Valentia cite some reasons why she felt her parents favored her sister? I.e. Gave her sister a corvette and only gave her a horse? Always clapped louder for her sister during Karaoke night? Let her sister see PG-13 movies and only let her see the PG ones?

Did the family seem enviable for their...
wealth?
possessions?
values?
time allocation?
care?
closeness?
family activities?
hobbies?
pets?
responsiveness?
responsibility?
nutrition?
wholesome media selections?
medical skills?
other?

wholesome media selections? no, even aside from the fact that I would consider a family with "wholesome media selections" more pitiable than enviable -- "wholesome media" sounds pretty dreary

Did Valentia's reply suggest that she didn't mind her parents favouring her sister? That it had benefited Valentia in some way? That her sister deserved to be favoured? That her parents had a good reason for acting how they did? That they did not actually favour her sister? That even if they did, they still treated Valentia so well that it didn't matter?

Was Valentia actually complaining that her parents favored her sister over her? Did she say something else? Did the therapist misunderstand what she said?
Would Valentia's sister have said the same about Valentia?
Is the sister older?
Relevant how many sisters Valentia has?
Is the sister still alive?
Would the puzzle also work with a brother instead of a sister?
Did Valentia in any way benefit from her parents favoring her sister over her? or did she at least think so?
Is there one aspect of live where the parents particularly favored Valentia's sister?
if so: sports? school? education? hobbies? choice of occupation? dating? marriage?

Do the parents still favour the sister? Did they stop at a certain point? Was Valentia's comment along the lines of "they still do"? "They always will"?

Are the parents still alive? Relevant? Is how the sister felt about being favoured relevant?

Is Valentia old? Are they enviable because while she and her sister are old, and their parents are very old, all are still fortunate to be living and experiencing each others' company?

*********** SPOILER ************
When Venetia's therapist said earnestly, "You feel that your parents have always favored your sister," she replied, "They still do." Venetia is 84. An octogenarian whose parents are doing anything other than pushing up daisies obviously has a very enviable family. This puzzle was inspired (?) by an episode on The Bob Newhart Show.
