...but it cost three people their lives. For those of you who don't know: this follows the other two puzzles in my Causality series. There are only three relevant people in this puzzle and they all end up dead. Your job is to recreate the scenario. |

The owner of a model airplane (directly? indirectly?) caused three deaths? Did he crash his plane into their dwelling and cause it to catch fire? Did his plane scare the three people to death? Cause them to move/react in a way that resulted in death? (i.e. jumping out of the way into 20 degree water) Did the coroner pronounce the three dead from... Asphyxiation? Heart attack? Hypothermia? Blood loss? Burns? Smoke Inhalation? Puncture of critical organ? Stroke? Shock? Brain damage? Impact Trauma? Crushing? Poison or toxic substance? Other? |

The owner of a model airplane (directly? indirectly?) caused three deaths? Yes, borderline direct/indirect Did he crash his plane into their dwelling and cause it to catch fire? No, FA. Perhaps "Driver/Pilot Error" was not the best term; it is a model plane, after all Did his plane scare the three people to death? No Cause them to move/react in a way that resulted in death? No (i.e. jumping out of the way into 20 degree water) Did the coroner pronounce the three dead from... Asphyxiation? One was this Heart attack? Hypothermia? Blood loss? Burns? One was this or... Smoke Inhalation? ...this Puncture of critical organ? Stroke? Shock? One was this Brain damage? Impact Trauma? Crushing? Poison or toxic substance? Other? Would it help to know the respective ages/backgrounds of the Pilot and the three people? FA! I.e. HAM/F, 0-10, 10-20, etc. Did a piece of the model airplane fall off and hit them from a high altitude? No Did the whole airplane fall out of the sky and crash into them? No |

Ok, are the three people HAM? Is the "pilot" one of the three people? Did the model airplane crash? Asphyxiation - by drowning? choking? strangulation? being smothered with something? Did something catch fire? someone? Shock - following a physical injury? Or following something he/she saw/heard/otherwise observed? |

Ok, are the three people HAM? HAM or HAF; doesn't really matter. Let's say that all 3 are HAM. Is the "pilot" one of the three people? Yes Did the model airplane crash? Eventually Asphyxiation - by drowning? choking? strangulation? being smothered with something? None of these, really. Did something catch fire? Yes, and then... someone? Yes Shock - following a physical injury? Yesish -- simpler Or following something he/she saw/heard/otherwise observed? No Also, were there any people involved who did not die? No Cost 3 their lives... 3 animals? 3 Artificial constructs (models, figurines, etc)? 3 Insects? 3 Fish? No, it was the 3 people in the puzzle, so No to rest Ooo... if Fish... did one die of asphyxiation from being knocked OUT of the water? Maybe the aquarium was broken? Fish pond disrupted? |

Asphyxiation... from the smoke forcing all the oxygen out of the area? From the smoke forcing all the oxygen out of the lungs? Recap: Human Pilot/Controller and 2 Human Bystanders (Friends?) were out watching the remote control model airplane fly around when suddenly... The airplane malfunctioned? The airplane collided with something? A part broke off? ...and some portion of the airplane crashed into the people? into the structure they were observing from (i.e. control tower)? And the resulting fire? smoke? impact? killed them. |

Was it in fact a model airplane in the sense of the remote controlled planes that kids use as toys? or was it a more realistic or larger model (such as a design prototype)? If the latter, was it undergoing some sort of test? For both: was the plane actually flying (i.e. up in the air, without being suspended by anything or resting on anything)? |

Are you bothered by atypical names? I'd like to call them Windy (the one who died by asphyxiation) , Flame (the one who died by fire/smoke), and Shocky (the one who died from electrical shock), if that's ok. Names like that help me remember who is who in a puzzle. Which of the three is the "pilot" - Windy? Flame? Shocky? None of the three knew each other, so is it worthwhile to pursue the reason why they were all together for the incident? |

None of the three knew each other, so is it worthwhile to pursue the reason why they were all together for the incident? FA By the way, although gender doesn't matter in this puzzle, let's say Flame & Shocky are HAM, and Windy is HAF. |

Order of events: Which happened first -- the fire? the electrical shock? the yet-to-be-determined cause of asphyxiation? Which happened second -- fire? shock? cause of asphyxiation? Which happened last -- fire? shock? cause of asphyxiation? Was the source of the electrical shock: something electronic falling into water? If so, the model? lightning strike? Did the events of Windy's death cause (directly or indirectly) Shocky's death? did they cause Flame's death? Did the events of Shocky's death cause (directly or indirectly) Flame's death? Or were all three deaths independent of one another, in that any of the three would have died regardless of whether anything happened to the other two? |

Ok, let's see if I can recreate the chain of events. - Flame, a HAM, was flying a remote controlled model airplane. - The airplane model collided with something (for svv of collide). - As a result of the collision, Windy (HAF) died of asphyxiation (exactly how is yet to be determined). - Windy's death from asphyxiation led indirectly to a fire, which killed Flame. - Windy's death from asphyxiation also led indirectly to something electronic (not the model plane) falling into some water, which caused Shocky (HAM) to die from electrical shock. All correct so far? Did these events occur in the order given? Was the electrical item that fell into the water the remote control? Something entirely unrelated to a model airplane? Were the three people the only ones in the area? Was there a large number of people present? A few other people? Did these events all take place outside? Were all three victims outside? |

Yes, and I'm going to add some clarification: The event that lead to Windy's death directly led to the other two. All correct so far? Did these events occur in the order given? See above Was the electrical item that fell into the water the remote control? No Something entirely unrelated to a model airplane? Yes Were the three people the only ones in the area? RECAP: It's only a model... but it cost three people their lives. "It" is a model airplane, being controlled by Flame. Due to the model airplane coming into some form of contact with something, Flame, Windy, and Shocky were killed. Flame burned to death (or died of smoke inhalation; which one of the two it is is irrel), Shocky died of electric shock, and Windy, the only one indoors, was asphyxiated. All three of the deaths were accidental. The event that lead to Windy's death -- the airplane's contact with the something -- came before Shocky's death, which came before Flame's. All three deaths occurred in a matter of a minute or two, probably less. HINT: Windy's death could be considered natural causes. |

If not asthma (good idea, Kyeannpepper!), did she have allergies that caused her throat to swell shut? Did the plane release something she was allergic to? I had the sudden image of the plane flying into a beehive, stirring up the bees, and Windy having bee allergies. But that doesn't fit with her being indoors. Oh well. |

Did the model airplane clip some power lines? (the overhead, suspended from towers kind) By clipping the power lines, did it cause a power outage? Which then shut off Windy's... iron lung? Other form of breathing device? The clipped power lines then fell to the ground and shocked Shocky who was passing by? Fell into a swimming pool where Shocky was swimming? Hit a puddle where Shocky was standing? The model plane then crashed and set something on fire? Itself? The forest? A man-made structure? And its controller, Flame, was caught in the mess? |

Was Windy on an oxygen tank? Did it become disconnected? See below **********SPOILER********** Did the model airplane clip some power lines? (the overhead, suspended from towers kind) By clipping the power lines, did it cause a power outage? Which then shut off Windy's... iron lung? Other form of breathing device? The clipped power lines then fell to the ground and shocked Shocky who was passing by? Fell into a swimming pool where Shocky was swimming? Hit a puddle where Shocky was standing? The model plane then crashed and set something on fire? Itself? The forest? A man-made structure? And its controller, Flame, was caught in the mess? Wow, nice work! Here's the story: Flame was flying a model airplane from a perch in a tree in a park. He lost sight of the plane for a moment and the propeller cut a power line. The power line caused a power outage, which shut off Windy's ventilator, and she died. The cut line fell into a puddle where Shocky happened to be standing, electrocuting him. Finally, the cut line caused the plane to catch fire, and the plane crashed into Flame's tree, setting in on fire and killing him. GREAT solve, Dlcygnet! New puzzle sometime soon. |
