The number of the very people: two? three? more? Did the very people know each other? are they friends? family? blood-bond with the boy? They were insulted by his doing? words? pictures? gestures? Or by his doing nothing? Was the boy very little? His gender relevant? Did they try to help him with: money? advice? physical protection? |

[LTPF list of professional fields], please. Did they boy know the four people? Are the four people H/A/M? F? Relevant? Would they have helped him specifically with the money? his family? or are they, let's say, a charity or organisation that does fundraising from which he could benefit? (e.g. he has cancer and they're from a cancer foundation) The insulting words - were they said? written? Did the insult imply that the four people were stupid? evil? ugly? gay? (not that the latter is an insult, but it could be taken as one by some people) |

Do the people try to help him to get (more) money? To keep money? To spend money wisely? Keep track of his money? Did the boy actually need help? If so: Did he know it? Were they actually sucessful in helping him? Did the boy intend to insult anyone? Is the boy's age relevant? Would the puzzle work with a 15 years old? With an adult? Did the boy insult them by speaking words? Writing? Did the words form a sentence? More than one sentence? Less (e.g. "You idiots!")? Was it only one word? Was the boy's utterance in a language the four people understood? |

If Doriana's guess is correct, I have a guess: Did the postal workers buy him the presents on his list? But they missed a few? Or got the wrong type? And the boy thinks the postal workers stole them? |

Wow, awesome work Balin, I didn't think this would last too long but I expected it to last a bit longer than it did. ***********Spoiler************* A bit early for a Christmas puzzle but here goes.... This is the funny story of a young boy who comes from a very poor family . The boy writes to Santa Claus saying that he doesn't want any presents for himself but if Santa could see his way to giving him £5 he could buy a turkey and ham for his family for Christmas day. The letter was opened by some postal workers who were very touched by the boy's request. There were four workers and they each agreed to give £1 (which was a lot of money in those days) out of their own pocket and send it to the boy. A week later the boy receives a lovely letter from Santa with 4 crispy pound notes enclosed. The boy is delighted and being the well reared kid he is decides to write a thank you letter to Santa. The letter simply says .... "Dear Santa Thank you very much for the £4 which will be a great help to my Mammy & Daddy. I know you sent the full £5 but one of those thieving b*s*a*ds in the post office must have stolen a pound from the envelope. Thanks again Your pal Jimmy" Thanks for playing and well done Balin for a great lateral leap. Nice work by Doriana too. |

Very nice puzzle. I was sure I had heard this story before when I asked about the letter to Santa, but I couldn't put it together any more. Great work, Balin! |
