**********************************SPOILER************************************** The winter of '48-'49 was so severe that it affected the denizens of Pocatello, Idaho. Not only was the negative attitudes and expressions contagious in the community but it was feared that it would be bad for the tourist industry, Mayor Phillips proposed a law to make it illegal in Pocatello not to smile, The city council passed the law and it is still on the books. This was discovered a few years later and made national news. There is still an annual smile festival during which time you can be arrested for not smiling. Pocatello takes pride in being the smile capital of the world. | ||
