I thought my answer made sense, but I'm glad my sister knows I'm not a racist.

I = me (Balin), my sister = my sister, both human, both children at the time of the puzzle, I'm male, she's female, FIVE GOLDEN RINGS... oh yeah, this is a Christmas puzzle

Answer - to a question your sister asked you? Someone else asked you?

Could the answer have been understood as racist?

Christmas puzzle, you say? Is any of the following relevant: Christmas carols? Christmas traditions? Christmas food? Nativity story? Church? Presents? Christmas tree?

Is there a particular line in the song that's relevant to your comment? Is there something in particular about the movie the song came from that relates to your comment?

Lyrics:

We're walking in the air, we're floating in a moonlit sky
The people far above are sleeping as we fly I'm holding very tight,
I'm riding in a midnight blue
I'm finding I can fly, so high above with you

Far across the world, the villages go by like trees
The rivers and the hills, the forests and the streams

Children gaze open mouth, taken by surprise Nobody down below believes their eyes

We're surfing in the air, we're swimming in the frozen sky
We're drifting over ice, mountains floating by

Suddenly swooping low on an ocean deep
Arousing of a mighty monster from its sleep

We're walking in the air, we're floating in a midnight sky
And everyone who sees us, greets us as we fly
I'm holding very, holding very tight, I'm riding in a midnight blue
I'm finding I can fly, so high above with you

The third line is actually 'the people far below' not 'the people far above' .

Can I assume the line is relevant in it's correct form? Did you reference people below as being people on the other side of the earth. Is that China for people living in the US , over here we say Australia.

Any of this prattling relevant?

RECAP:

My sister was quizzing me on the lyrics to "Walking in the Air"; I made a mistake on the third line ("The people far below are sleeping as we fly") that, to an observer (and my sister noted this), could have sounded racist.

HINT: Just how did she quiz me?

The opposite of 'up above' is 'down below'.
So the opposite of 'up North' would be 'down south'.

Did you say the people were white? This.

****SPOILER****

About ten or so years ago, my sister was quizzing me on the lyrics to the song "Walking in the Air." She'd give me the first part of the line, and I'd have to finish it. When we came to "The people far below are...", I had no idea and guessed "white." I meant white from the snow, not white as in skin color, but my sister (after laughing at me) pointed out the alternate meaning.

Nice work everyone, especially Noel for the last bit. And brush up on your lyrics.
