Balin (hi! I've missed you, though after a year you probably don't remember me - no worries), I too have Ireland on the brain, because my Dublin father-in-law was a window-washer, but he jokingly referred to himself as a "diamond polisher," diamond being = glass = window. (He sometimes got away in quite snobby society this way.) Should we be looking for a pun, or secondary meaning, then? |

I do remember you I too have Ireland on the brain, because my Dublin father-in-law was a window-washer, but he jokingly referred to himself as a "diamond polisher," diamond being = glass = window. (He sometimes got away in quite snobby society this way.) Clever! Should we be looking for a pun, or secondary meaning, then? No, this is fairly straightforward Wait, Balin, does your subject heading (smiling Irish eyes) have a lot to do with this? No, it was just a reference to Ireland - Fiona |

Did you think they would clean them with their hands? their sleeves? napkins? towels? newspapers? toilet paper? leather? fur? Are the supplies that are used to prepare the dish relevant? Is the dish cooked? fried? baked? steamed? frozen? chilled? flambéd? Would it help to find out the exact dish? Or only the method of preparation? Does any step in its preparation actually produce anything that could get the windows dirty? |

Are those special spatulas relevant that are used to distribute the batter? Yes Did you think they could as well use them instead of those things (I have no idea what they're called, neither in German nor in English!) We call them "squeegees" to clean the windows? Yes ****SPOILER**** I was at a crêpe shop near Sligo and noticed the woman cooking them using a small spatula resembling a squeegee to spread the batter on the griddle. I decided that when they had closed up shop for the night, they could use them to clean the windows as well. Good work everyone, and nice solve Doriana. New puzzle right away. |

Hehe, nice puzzle! Whenever I see someone make a crêpe like that, I have to think of the scene in "Amélie" where she imagines that vinyl records are made in the same way. |
